Student Interest in Learning Speaking By Using Story Completion Technique y At Eleventh Grade Of SMKN 2 Bone

This research is aim to analyze students' interest in learning speaking using
story completion techniques in the eleventh grade accounting at SMKN 2 Bone.
This research use a descriptive qualitative research method. This research is
conducted at SMKN 2 Bone. The subject in this study are the eleventh grade
accounting students at SMKN 2 Bone. The number of participants is 33 students
from one class. The instrument is used to obtain data in this study is using
triangulation techniques: observation, interviews and questionnaires.
The results of the study using the story completion technique show that the
implementation of the story completion technique begins with the teacher starting
a story with a few sentences. Then the teacher stops telling the story and continues
by the students. The students continue the story according to the ideas of the
students. This allows all students to have the same opportunity to tell stories.
Through this story completion technique, students become more enthusiastic,
communicative, enthusiastic and creative. Furthermore, the results of research
regarding student responses to the use of story completion are good where
students feel more enthusiastic and active in story completion. At the beginning of
the meeting the student's response is not good where students are still shy and
hesitant to continue the story, but at the third and fourth meetings, the student's
response is much better. The students begin to be interested in storytelling and the
speaking learning process become interesting and exciting.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the presentation and discussion of the data in the
previous chapter, the researcher drew conclusions.
1. The implementation of the story completion technique is positive, it is
seen from the activeness of the students during the application of the
story completion technique. All the students are brave and confident to
speak and continue the story and all the students have the opportunity to
tell stories.
2. The student's response is enthusiastic and self-confident even though the
initial student response is not good because of shame and lack of
confidence, but after the application of the story completion technique in
two meetings, students begin to be interested, enthusiastic, more self-
confident and creative.
B. Suggestion
Based on the research that was carried out, the researcher would like to
give some suggestion :
a. The English teacher
Based on this research, it is suggested that teachers can encourage students so
that students have motivation and interest in learning English, especially in
speaking skills. Then it is suggested that the teacher can apply the story
completion technique in the speaking learning process so that students can be
more enthusiastic about learning and all students can get the same opportunity
to speak when learning speaking.
b. The students
Based on the results of this study, students of SMKN 2 Bone, especially class
XI AKL, must have motivation and interest in English. Students can make
English a fun and not boring lesson by using interesting methods such as the
story completion technique.
c. The other researcher
The researcher hopes that the results of this study can provide information
about students' interest in the learning process using the story completion
technique. The researcher also hopes that the results of this study can inspire
other researchers to conduct research related to student interest in the use of
story completion techniques to enrich existing research.
