Analysis of The Students Mispronunciation Through Interview Method

This research aims to find out the students‟ mispronunciation and the
factor that influence students mispronunciation through the interview method.
Researcher conduted research design in a phenomenological with case study.
Data was collected through recordings and interviews. The phenomenom that
occurad in class students ( 10.5) in Madrasah Aliyah was that various errors
occured in English pronunciation. The research result found that students learning
English continued to make mistakes while changing the pronunciation of certain
letters. Just as the latter /v/ is replaced by the latter /f/, for example the word
/'vɪtǝmɪn/ is replaced by/fitǝmin/ and there are many things that must be learned
and differentiated in terms of phonology ( vowels and consonants). There are four
factors that can influence pronunciation problems, namely: (1) mother tongue, (2)
age factors, (3) social environmental factors and (4) motivation and innate
phonetic. It is suggested for the next researcher to investigate pronunciation
problem related suprasegmental features and also it is suggested to investigated
the treatments of pronunciation problem so that the students can minimize
mispronunciation and the teacher should be introduce course to be trained on
phontetics to help students improving their pronunciation.
A. Conclusion
In line with the results of the data analysis and discussion, the following
conclusions can be drawn:
1. The Students Mispronunciation Through Interview Method
English mispronunciation faced by students. the students alternated
consonant sounds with other consonants, the replacement of sound [v]
to be [f], the replacement of sound [ð] to be [d] ,the replacement of
sound [θ] to be [t] ,the replacement of sound[t∫] to be [c] and the
replacement of sound[z] to be [s]. In accordance the vowel sound
alternations, the students were in the form of the replacement of sound
[iː] to be [e], the replacement of sound [ʊ] to be [u], the replacement of
sound [Λ] to be [a], the replacement of sound [ə] to be [a]. The
replacement of sound [ɔ:] to be [ɒ].

2. The Factor Affect to Students Mispronunciation to in learning
English
The factors of pronuncation can affect the pronunciation problem
are mother tongue, Age factors, The social environment, Innate phonetic,
and Motivation. In relation factors mentioned the students have
pronunciation problem, it may be caused by the affect of factors.
B. Suggestion
Based on the result of this research, there are several
suggestion that can ba made to reduce mispronunciation of English .
therefore, it needs to be repaired so that the problem is reduced
1. For the teacher: It can be solved by teacher should be more efficient
in English sound system to make the students good pronunciation
and the classroom should be well equipped with modern technology
which can help our existing teaching system for pronunciation.the
teacher should be trained on phontetics to help students improving
their pronunciation and the teacher also must watch and correct the
students’ mispronunciation during the teaching because it will make
them get habituated tospeak with a good pronunciation. even though
the goal of speaking is to deliver meaning without concerning
pronunciation.
2. for the students: the present education system hardly gives
importance to pronounciation,so the authority should introduce
course from the very beginning of the students’ level in speaking
class to improve students’ pronunciation gradually. On the other
hand,the students should have more exposure to the target language
incorporating listening of the real life situation.As for the students,
they need to reduce their pronunciation problems, students should do
more practices and exercises so that they will speak with a good
pronunciation, the students should be taught the writing symbols are
different and spelling. If they speak English with good
pronunciation, their speaking will be more understandable and they
will create English atmosphere like native.
3. For the next reseachers to investiagate the treatment of problems
pronunciation so that the students can minimize mispronunciation
and also suggests to the next reseachers to find out the way to teach
pronunciation.
