The Use of Show and Tell Method in Teaching Vocabulary at SMPN 4 Cina

This script presents research about the use of Show and Tell Method in
teaching vocabulary at SMPN 4 Cina. This research is focused to know whether
or not the use of Show and Tell Method in teaching vocabulary can increase of
students’ ability in vocabulary mastery. The method of this research was
quantitative method. The pre-experimental design used pre-test and post-test with
the research approach used a pedagogic approach. There are two variables namely
independent variable and dependent variable. It was conducted in eight grade of
SMPN 4 Cina for the 2022/2023 academic year. The total population was 65
students. Then, the sample was VIII B and total number of the sample were 22
students. The result of the research is found that there is a significant difference
between the pre-test and post-test. The mean value obtained by students through
the pre-test is 55.55 and the post-test is 72.32 with the result that the significance
value is 0,000 less than 0,05. Then, the t-test value is higher that the t-table value
(7,779 > 1,721). It means that H0 is rejected and HA is accepted. It can be known
that the use of Show and Tell Method is effective in increasing students' English
vocabulary mastery. Then, the contribution of this research is to prove the
effectiveness of using Show and Tell Method in class.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
research concluded that the use of show and tell method in teaching
vocabulary was effectively used for students in class VIII B of SMPN 4 Cina.
The results showed that the student's scores increased from pre-test to post-
test (72,32 > 55,55) with the Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 < 0.05. then, t-test values
are higher than the t-table value 7,779 > 1,721. It means, H0 is rejected and
Ha is accepted. Can be concluded that the use of Show and Tell Method is
effective to increase students' vocabulary mastery.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion of the research, the researcher tries to give
some suggestions as follows:
1. For the English teachers
The use of Show and Tell Method in teaching and learning is one of
the most methods that effective in learning process. Based on the result of the
research the use of show and tell method in teaching English vocabulary. It
can support the teaching and learning process. So that, the students will be
more interested in learning English.
2. For Students
Using Show and Tell Method students should realize that adding
vocabulary is not as difficult as they think. The students also are expected to
have more vocabulary to make it easier to practice in their life.
3. For School
The researcher hoped every school gave better facilities for students to
support learning English.
4. For next researchers
This research is intended to describe how the use of show and tell
method was implemented to increase vocabulary at SMPN 4 Cina. Next
researchers may follow this research to conduct research related to teaching
English method in teaching English. It will be better if this research may be
used as one of the resources before the researchers do action research that is
related in the future.
