The Correlation between Students’ Activities in Watching English Video and Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at SMAN 2 Bone

This research aimed to determine the correlation between the activities of
students’ watching English videos and how the scores of students' vocabulary
mastery in class XI SMAN 2 BONE. This research used Correlation Research using
a Quantitative Data Approach. There are two variables, namely the independent
variable (students’ activities in watching English video) and the dependent variable
(students' vocabulary mastery). The sample of this research is class XI students of
SMAN 2 Bone, totaling 30 students. Samples were taken by Purposive Sampling
Technique. Researcher used students’ activities tests and vocabulary tests as
research instruments. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant the
correlation between students’ activities in watching English videos and students’
vocabulary mastery. Values X = 63.67 and Y = 79.00 yield r = 0.683 meaning that
there is a significant correlation between students' activities in watching English
videos and students’ vocabulary mastery. This is evidenced by the value of the
SPSS version 22 product moment coefficient which shows that r > 0.01, which
means there is a correlation between students' activities in watching English videos
and students' vocabulary mastery
A. Conclusions
Based on the findings and discussion of previous research, the
researcher concluded about the correlation between students' activities in
watching English video and students’ vocabulary mastery in class XI
SMAN 2 Bone Academic Year 2023/2024.
Based on statistical analysis, the Person correlation between
students’ activities watching English videos and students' vocabulary
mastery is 0.683. This shows that there is a large (substantial) positive
correlation between students’ activities watching English videos and
students’ vocabulary mastery. At the 0.000 mark because it is significantly
less than 0.05 this shows that there is a significant correlation between
activities in watching English videos and students’ vocabulary mastery. This
means that the Alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null
hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclusions, the researcher offer some suggestion that
can be a good distribution in order to increase the quality of English teaching
learning process and to improve the students’ ability in mastering English.
They are
1. For English Teachers
a. The use of media cannot be separated from the teaching and
learning process. The use of video is very helpful for teachers
b. During the teaching and learning process because it can make
students more interested in the material and make students learn
happily.
c. The use of media in learning is very helpful for students, such as
watching English video to increase students’ vocabulary,
especially animations videos, for example Madagascar.
2. For students
a. The researcher suggests that students' vocabulary can be
improved by watch English video.
b. Researcher suggest that the activities of watching English video
can increase students' vocabulary.
3. For Researcher
It is suggested to other researchers to complete this research in any
way other researchers about watching English videos. Based on the
explanation above researchers would like to suggest other
researchers, that the results of. This research can be used as an
additional reference for further research that is different samples and
opportunities. Also suggested to others this thesis as addition
reference.
