The Effectiveness Of Online Learning By Using Zoom And Whatsapp Group Towards Students’ Skill In Speaking English

This research presents about Online Learning through Zoom and WhatsApp
group at the twelfth grade students of SMA PP AL-Manawwarah. This research aims
to find out the effectiveness of students’ speaking skill through Zoom and WhatsApp
group. There are two variables in this research. The dependent variable is students’
speaking skill. The independent variable is Zoom and WhatsApp Group. This
research used quantitative method which used pre-experimental research with one
group pre-test and post-test. The researcher used cluster sampling. The sample
consists of 15 students from the XII MIPA of SMA PP AL-Manawwarah. The
researcher gave pre-test, treatments, and post-test. The data on the students’ speaking
skill were analyzed by using SPSS 25. The experimental group was given pre-test,
treatment and post-test by using Zoom and WhatsApp group. The result of this
research shows that after teaching speaking through Zoom and WhatsApp group, the
students have good skill in speaking. It shows from the mean score of post-test was
significantly higher than pre-test (79.67 > 68.60). It also can be seen from the result
of t-test showed 0,000 which was < significant degree (0,05). It can be defined that
H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected, and automatically H1 (alternative hypothesis) is
accepted. Therefore, it can be stated that using Zoom and WhatsApp group is
effective towards students’ skill in speaking English.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that using Zoom and WhatsApp group as a media in
online learning effective towards students’ speaking skill. It can be proved by
seeing the mean score and standard deviation of pre-test and post-test. The mean
score of pre-test is 68,60 and standard deviation of pre-test is 5,914. While, the
mean score of post-test is 79,67 and standard deviation of post-test is 8,633.
Furthermore, the t-test result showed 0,000 which was < significance degree
(0,05). It indicated that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It means that there
was a different significant of the students’ speaking skill in pre-test and post-
test after giving treatment through Zoom and WhatsApp group.
In conclusion, the uses of Zoom and WhatsApp group as media in online
learning effective towards students’ skill in speaking English at the twelfth
grade of SMA PP AL-Manawwarah.
B. Suggestion
Based on the research results and conclusion, the researcher would like
to give suggestions as follows:
1. For the English teacher must be creative in managing material that must be
integrated into the online class.
2. For the effectiveness of online learning, the researcher suggest to the English
teacher should use Zoom and WhatsApp group as media that it should be
creative and effective to use it. In order to make the students more active and
interested in online teaching learning process.
3. For the students, they should realize that speaking is not as difficult as they
think. Students should not feel shame in speaking activity. They should not
be afraid of making mistakes. The students also are expected to have more
practice in speaking activity.
4. For the other researcher, it can be suggested may use as an additional
reference for further researches. Moreover, it is expected to conduct further
researches in different areas and topics.
