Analyzing The Students’ Politeness Strategy In Speaking At T.I.M.E Club Of Hmps TBI I Bone

The objective of the research is to find out the types politeness strategies
used by the students at T.I.M.E club of HMPS TBI IAIN Bone. This research was
conducted through the descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used
observation list and recording as the instrument of the research. The research used
by Brown and Levinson’s theory namely bald on record, positive politeness,
negative politeness, and off-record. In the research, the researcher found 3
strategies used by the students at T.I.M.E club of HMPS TBI IAIN Bone. The
finding was politeness strategies 5 strategy (15 utterances), negative strategies 2
strategy (2 utterances), and off-record 1 strategy (4 utterances).
A. Conclusion
Based on the analysis had conducted in the research, the researcher found:
The types of politeness strategies used by the students at T.I.M.E Club of
HMPS TBI IAIN Bone are Positive politeness, Negative politeness, and Off-
record. In types of politeness strategy on the recording, there are 21 utterances
data from ten students at T.I.M.E Club HMPS TBI IAIN Bone which had been
found by the Researcher. The data showed that positive politeness, negative
politeness, and off-record is the type of politeness strategy in the recording.
Meanwhile, no data of Bald on record was found during the research.
B. Suggestion
Based on the findings and discussion of this research, the researcher offered
three points of an idea which are addressed to the readers, students, and the next
researchers in terms of politeness strategy, so that they have new insight about it.
The points were elaborated in the following:
1. For Readers
For the Readers who want to get a little bit of knowledge about politeness
strategy in someone’s utterance especially in the types of politeness strategy, the
Researcher does hope that this research can help the Readers in answering the
questions which come to their mind. The Researcher thinks that learning a new
language is essential to face the modern era. There is a lot of things that we can
use in improving our ability in a new language are magazine, book, and social
media exactly on YouTube.
2. For The Next Researcher
For the next Researchers, the Researcher does hope that this research can
be useful as the reference if the next Researchers want to conduct the research
about politeness strategy which is happened on someone’s utterance. It is much
better if the next Researchers look for the appearance of politeness strategy in
other media or the next Researcher can look for the phenomena of politeness
strategy in magazines, books, social media, and education field, in order, there is
the distinction between this research and the next research.
3. For The Student
This research can be a reference for students. It is suggested for students
tobe aware of the importance of politeness in English teaching and learning.For
English students, to be more learn about pragmatics especially politeness strategy.
