Teaching Students’ Vocabulary bu Using Round Robin Technique at the Second Grade SMPN 6 Watampone

This research is aimed to know students vocabulary by using Round Robin
Technique at the second grade of SMPN 6 Watampone. The population of this
research is the eighth grade of SMPN 6 Watampone which consist of 202 students.
The writer applied cluster sampling,the sample of the research consist of 27 students
which were taken VIII B. The instrument of this research was a written vocabulary test
used in pre-test and post-test. Vocabulary test consists of pre-test is given to the students
to know the students’ vocabulary competences before applying round robin technique
and post-test is given to the students to know the students’ vocabulary competences
after applying round robin technique. After several meetings, this research finds out
the result of this research shows : (1) the mean score obtained by the students through
pre-test is 40,363 and post-test is 92,8407, (2) the t-test value is higher than the t-table
(23,221 > 2,056). It means that there is a significant difference between the result of
the students’ pre-test and post-test. Therefore, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and
alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Based on the finding and discussion of the
research, the researcher drawn a conclusion that the use of Round Robin Technique
increases the students’ vocabulary competences at SMPN 6 Watampone.
A. Conclusions
Based on the findings and discussion above, the researcher comes to
conclusion. The conclusion is Using Round Robin Technique in teaching
vocabulary is effective to be used. It is indicated by the significant
difference between mean score of pre-test 40,363 and post-test 92,8407, its
way also proved by the difference of t-test and t-table, which 23,221 in ttest
and 2,056 in t-table. The result of the research shows a very high ratio
between t- test and t-table that indicates Roun Robin Technique is
significantly improved students’ vocabulary at the second grade of SMPN
6 Watampone.
B. Suggestions
In view of fact that the application of round robin technique in teaching
vocabulary as the teaching method, has been proved to be more effective in
improving the students’ vocabulary competences, the researcher would like to
give suggestions as follows :
1. For teacher :
a. The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the
classroom for teaching vocabulary such as applying round robin
technique.
b. The teacher should be creative in applying new method for
students to improve their ability in learning language.
c. The English teacher should apply this method as one of the ways
to improve the students’ vocabulary competences.
2. For student :
a. The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 6 Watampone have to
improve their vocabulary as an important thing in learning a
language.
b. The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 6 Watampone ough to
motivate their self and manage their time.
