This thesis presents research about The Effectiveness of Four Square Writing Method in Increasing Students’ Writing ability at SMAN 2 Cenrana, the students always find the difficulties in their writing. Four square writing method is one of method which can help the students to solve their difficulties in their writing. The problem statements of this thesis is: How is the effectiveness of four square writing method in increasing students’ writing ability.
This research uses quantitative method with pre-experimental design. The researcher applys cluster sampling by choosing IPA class of the second year that consists of 29 students. This research employs a test based on the problem statement investigated, it is writing test. Writing test consists of pre-test was given to the students to know the students’ writing ability before applying four square writing method and post-test is given to the students to know the students’ writing ability after applying four square writing method, while the data obtains through tests are analyzed with mean score and the formula of t-test.
After several meetings, this research finds out the use of four square writing method is sigificantly effective in increasing the students writing ability. The result of this research shows : (1) the mean score obtained by the students through pre-test is 54,20 and post-test is 70,79. (2) the t-test value is higher than the t-table (3,88>2.048). It means that there is a significant difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test. Therefore, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that four squre writing method gave the positive effect in increasing students’ writing ability. It is seen the effect size was 0,72 , it was moderate (0,2< 0,72 < 0.8) and the students’ prior knowledge of writing is still low, it is provided in the data that most of the students mean score in pre-test was 54,20 and it increased after applying four square writing method. The students’ mean score in post-test was 70,79.
B. Implication
Based on the discussion and conclusions of this research, the development of this writing method with four square writing method, can be found high implications when compared with the textbook media that has been the most dominant use by teachers and students at school. The implications contained in this research are as follows:
1. The method that used will provide practical contribution for students in English learning process especially writing skill, which besides facilitate students in learning, this method can also improve the effectiveness and improve their learning result. Thus, the method used can be used as consideration and solution to overcome the students’ writing ability especially on the material of essay text.
2. The application of instructional media in the form of the use of methods requires readiness of students to implement learning independently so that the students can get maximum results as well. this method will facilitate students to learn independently according to the speed of their respective understanding without having to always rely on textbooks as teaching materials from the teachers.
3. The results obtained from this research indicate that this method is feasible to be used as well as effective and attractive for students.
