Exploring The Symbolic Violence In English Text Book For Secondary Level Of Junior High School

This research is about symbolic violence in English text book for secondary level of junior high school. The problem statements of this research is How are the pattern sentence and picture of symbolic violence in the secondary level of Junior High School English text book? The method used is the library method. The aim of this study was to investigate the pattern sentence and picture of symbolic violence in the secondary level of Junior High School English text book, especially for secondary level. This study utilized a qualitative research approach. The data in this study were collected by directly quotation and indirectly quotation. The results showed that in Effective English text book that is used by Junior High School at secondary level is found some texts and pictures that bias to habitus of dominant class which is a mechanism to socialize the habitus of dominant class to lower class. Texts those are found including task and conversation and the pictures are found including cover and illustration to make the explanation clearer.
A.Conclusions
Based on the result of data analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that Pattern sentence of symbolic violence is found in some texts in English text book for junior high school at secondary level that bias to dominant class. The texts become a mechanism to socialize habitus of dominant class to lower class. The texts are found including task and conversation. They are found in some topics, they are; My plan, Invitation and birthday, Traveling, and My activity. Whereas pattern pictures of symbolic violence are found biasing to dominant class. Pictures is a very good way to socialize habitus of dominant class because the pictures give more impression and imagination to reader in this case students to strengthen the image that is build buy the writer. The pictures are found including the cover and the illustration of material. Except the cover of the book, the illustrations are found in some topics, they are; My plan, Tips on being friend, Travel, My activity; and Teenage activity.
B.Suggestions
1.The researcher realizes that there are still some weaknesses in this paper so the readers or the students who want to study about symbolic violence are suggested to read some other references as the comparison of this because it requires a special attention to symbolic violence in English text book.
2.The researcher hopes that there will be more complete discussion about symbolic violence to fulfill all weaknesses in this paper.
