The Effect Of English Area Toward Students Speaking Ability At The Third Semester Students Of IAIN Bone

The researcher discusses about effect students’ speaking ability by using English Area technique at the third semester of English Study Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone. The objectives of the research is to know the English Area technique to improve students speaking ability for the fourth semester English Study Program at IAIN BONE. The dependent variable of this research is the students’ speaking ability and the independent variable is English Area.
In this research, the researcher used pre test and post test design. The pre test was given before treatment and post test was given after treatment to find out the students achivement in speaking. The researcher used cluster sampling, the researcher choses the sample 1 class that consist 10 students. They are students from the Third Semester of English Study Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone 2017/2018.
The result of this research shows that there is significant improvement of the student achivement in speaking by English Area technique. It also can be proved by the sig.(2-tailed) is 0,000< 0,05. It indicates that H1 is accept and Ho is rejected. It is assumed that there is significant diffrence between the students’ speaking ability after giving the treatment. It is proven by the mean score of the students of post test is high than pre test 11,30>17,50. It means, that the use of English Area technique can give effect the students speaking ability.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of the analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes as follows:
1. Students’ ability is improved in learning speaking through English area technique at the third semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone Academic Year 2018. It is proved by the result of students’ achievement in pre-test and post-test. The students’ ability is proved based on their score in post test better than pre test which has different significant of their score. It can be seen clearly the score of pre-test. In the pre test the students’ total score for pronunciation is 27 score, the students’ total score for grammar is 18 score, the students’ total score for vocabulary is 31 score, the students’ total score for fluency is 21 score, the students’ total score for comprehension is 17 score. In the post test, the students’ total score for pronunciation is 39 score, the students’ total score for grammar is 32 score, the students’ total score for vocabulary is 37 score, the students’ total score for fluency is 33 score, the students’ total score for comprehension is 34 score.
The result of pre test in experimental research, there are 10 students. There is 1 students get fair, and 9 students get fairly poor score, and there is no student get poor, fairly good, good, very good and excellent. Thus, in the pre-test, most of the students still get low score. In the post-test after giving treatment by applying English Area technique in teaching speaking. Most of
students get high score, it means that 3 students get fair score, 2 students get good score, 5 students get fairly good score and no one students get poor, fairly poor, very good and excellent score. Thus, all of students get score significantly increased and students get high score more than low score.
It can be seen clearly the mean score and standard deviation of English Area technique improve after they are given treatments. The improvement of students’ speaking ability is marked by the result of the post-test. Thus, using English Area technique in teaching speaking is influenced the students’ speaking achievement.
B. Suggestions
The researcher gives suggestions to all readers and especially for teachers, instructors and students that:
1. For the improvement of the teaching english, the researcher suggests to the english teacher especially speaking should give a good method in teaching english based on te students’ motivation and the teacher should be creative in creating the teaching learning activities, the teacher should focus on teaching learning strategis, not only focus on transferring information. Using the show and tell technique is able to improve students’ speaking ability.
2. The students can improve their speaking ability pass practice every moment.
3. The students always speak English Area anywhere and everywhere
