Improving Students Speaking Ability by Using Repetition Drill Technique through Daily Expression at the Fourth Semester of English Program of IAIN Bone

The researcher discusses about improving students’ speaking ability by using Repetition Drill Technique through Daily Expression at the fourth semester of English Study Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone. The objectives of the research is to know the repetition drill technique to improve students speaking ability for the fourth semester English Study Program at IAIN BONE. The dependent variable of this research is the students’ speaking ability and the independent variable is repetition drill. In this research, the researcher used pre test and post test design. The pre test was given before treatment and post test was given after treatment to find out the students achivement in speaking. The researcher used cluster sampling, the researcher choses the sample 1 class that consist 24 students. They are students from the Fourth Semester of English Study Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone 2017/2018. The result of this research shows that there is significant improvement of the student achivement in speaking by Repetition Drill technique. It also can be proved by the sig.(2-tailed) is 0,000< 0,05. It indicates that H1 is accept and Ho is rejected. It is assumed that there is significant diffrence between the students’ speaking ability after giving the treatment. It is proven by the mean score of the students of post test is high than pre test 61,20>74,80. It means, that the use of Repetition Drill Technique can improve the students speaking ability.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of the analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher
would like to make conclusions as follows: Students’ ability is improved in learning speaking by using repetition drill
technique at the fourth semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone Academic Year 2018. It is proved by the result of students’ achievement in pretest and post-test. The students’ ability is proved based on their score in post test
better than pre test which has different significant of their score. It can be seen
clearly the score of pre-test.
The result of pre test in experimental research, there are 25 students. There
are 2 students get fairly good, and 9 students get fair score, there are 14 students
get fairly poor and there is not student get poor, good, very good and excellent.
Thus, in the pre-test, most of the students still get low score. In the post-test after
giving treatment by applying repetition drill technique in teaching speaking. Most
of students got high score, it means that 4 students got good score, 5 students get
fairly good score, 16 students get fair score and no one students got excellent,
very good,fairly poor and poor score. Thus, all of students got score significantly
increased and students got high score more than low score.
It could be seen clearly the mean score and standard deviation of
repetition drill technique improved after they were given treatments. The improvement of students’ speaking ability was marked by the result of the
post-test. Thus, using repetition drill technique in teaching speaking were influenced the students’ speaking achievement.
B. Suggestions
The researcher gives suggestions to all readers and especially for
teachers, lecturers or instructors and students that:
1. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggests to the
English teacher especially speaking should give the good method in
teaching English based Using Triple repetition drill technique through daily expression can improve students’ speaking ability.
2. The students can improve their speaking ability pass practice every
moment.
