The Comparative Study of the Students’ Listening Skill by Using English Song and Animation Video as Media at the Fourth Semester of English Study Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone

The objectives of this research are: to find out significant difference of
students’ listening achievement between using English Song and Animation Video at
the Fourth Semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone and to find out
students’ interest in learning listening.
This research used quantitative method. The sample of this research were the
students at the fourth semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone in academic
year 2017/2018. The sample was chosen by applying cluster sampling technique and
consist 22 students TBI 1 and TBI 2. The research data were collected by using two
kinds of instruments namely: listening test and questionnaire.
The results of the research showed that there was significant difference
between students’ study listening of using English Song and Animation Video at the
fourth semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone. The comparison data
between pre-test and post-test of experimental group indicated that the mean score
was improved where the mean score of the experimental group in post-test was
significantly higher than the control group (81.36>73.64). and the students’ in
learning listening through English Song and Animation Video at the fourth semester
in TBI 1 and TBI 2 of English Study program of IAIN Bone got interested.
A. Conclusion
After analysing the data based on the students’ listening test through English
Song and Animation Video, the reseracher conclude that there significant comparison
between students’ achievement in English Song and Animation Video.
The students’ achievement is improved in learning listening through English
Song and Animation Video at the fourth semester of English Study program of IAIN
Bone Academic Year 2017/2018. It is proven by the result of students’ achievement
in pre-test and post-test. The students’ achievement is proven based on their score in
post test better than pre test which has significant different of their score. It could be
seen clearly the score pre-test. In the pre test and post test for English Song the
students’ total score 69.09 in post test for English Song the students’ total score 81.36 .
It shows that the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score in pre-test
69.09 > 81.36 . The result of pretest and post test for Animation Video it could be seen
clearly the mean score of students’ pretest is 59.55 and in post-test is 73.64. It shows
that the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score in pre-test 59.55 > 73.64 .
Thus, the researcher conclude the mean score students’ listening test through English
Song is higher the mean score students’ listening test through Animation Video.
The students’ interest in learning listening by using English Song and
Animation Video is categorized as highly motivated by the score of English Song is
1.866 and the score of Animation Video is 1.781 . Students’ background knowledge on
the topic of the materials can help them understand easily while the good atmosphere
in the class can help students enjoy the learning process.
B. Suggestion
The researcher gives suggestions to all reader and especially for teachers,
instructors, and students that :
1. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggest to the
English teacher especially listening, the teacher must give a good method in
teaching English based on the students’ motivation and the teacher must be
creative increating the teaching learning activities, the teacher must focus on
teaching learning strategies, not only focus on transferring information. Using
English Song and Animation Video is able to improve students’ listening
skill.
2. The students of the fourth semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone
have to focus and improve their listening skill through the other media of
learning listening.
