Improving Students’ Vocabulary through Indonesian Folklore at the Second Semester of English Study Program of at IAIN Bone

The researcher conducts research about ‘’Improving Students’
Vocabulary through Indonesian Folklore at the Second Semester of English
Study Program at IAIN Bone in Academic 2017/2018’’. The objective of this
reseach to improved the students vocabulary throuh Indonesian Folklore. The
researcher focuses on indonesian folklore, how to find new words, with some
question in the text “indonesian folklore” in teaching learning process that
teacher has applied in the class. The dependent variable of this research
students’ Vocabulary and the independent Indonesian Folklore.
In this research, the researcher used pre test and post test design. The
pre test was given before treatment and post test was given after treatment to
find out the improvement students’vocabulay. The researcher used cluster
sampling, the researcher choses the sample 1 class that consist 20 students.
They are students from the second Semester of English Study Program of
Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone 2017/2018.
The result of this research shows that there is significant improvement
of the student vocabulary. It also can be proved by the sig.(2-tailed) is 0,000<
0,05. It indicates that H 1 is accept and Ho is rejected. It is assumed that there
is significant diffrence between the students’ vocabulary after giving the
treatment. It is proven by the mean score of the students of post test is high
than pre test. It means, by using Indonesian folklore can improve the students’
vocabulary
A.Conclusions
Based on the result of the analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher
would like to make conclusion. The Students’ Vocabulary improve by using
Indonesian Folklore at the second semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone
in Academic Year 2018. It has provided by the result of students’ achievement in pre-
test and post-test. The students’ has provided based on their score in post test better
than pre-test which have different significant of their score, the researcher prove the
data that the most of students get good after applying treatment and 14 student is poor
score classification with mean score of students’ pre-test has (56.50) The students
vocabulary after applying Indonesian folklore has significantly improve their
vocabulary, it has shown by the data that most of students get fairly score with mean
score of students’ post-test is (66.85). The value of t.test (7.414) higher than t-table
(2.093). It means that the alternative hypothesis (H i ) is accepteble and the null
hypothesis (H o ) is rejected. In other word, there is significant diffrence between the
students’ vocabulary mastery before and after giving the treatment.
In this section Indonesian folklore show very useful to all students in
learning vocabulary. Indonesian folklore motivate students in learning Vocabulary.
They can get some new words, the students will be active to learn English, because
their comprehension has growth by new vocabulary. it is essential that suitable text
are chose.
B.Suggestions
In view of the fact that narrative text has been proved to improve the students’
vocabulary, the reseacher would like to give suggestions as follows:
1. The teacher could use Indonesian Folklore as references media in teaching
vocabulary.The teacher could take media in teaching, especially in teaching
English vocabulary. Therefore, the students were always stimulate the
students’ interest and motivate them in learning vocabulary. Also The
teacher should be creative moreover, the education system needs them to
improve the teaching skill according to the up to date technology. Now
days, the internet is widely used by lots of people. There are many website
that can be accessed to get new teaching materials. The equipment also
should be sophisticated and functioned perfectly to the students in class.
2. The students of the second semester of English Study Program of IAIN
Bone have to improve their ability in English skills, especially vocabulary.
3. For the other researcher It is suggested that other researcher use the research
results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the similar
topic in the same design to improve the students’ vocabulary with different
subject.
