Enhancing the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Through Visual Media at the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 30 Bone

Vocabulary is a basic to make interaction with the others, it is undeniable
that vocabulary becomes one of important components in developing language. This
research presents about enhancing the students’ vocabulary mastery through visual
media at the eleventh grade students of SMAN 30 Bone. The problem at the school of
the eleventh grade students of SMAN 30 is the students get difficulties when they
deal with a text because they do not know the meaning of the words. It occurs
because their vocabulary are so poor. The problem statements of this research is does
visual media enhance the students’ vocabulary mastery at the eleventh grade students
of SMAN 30 Bone.
This research used quantitative method. The sample consist of 28 students.
The researcher gave pretest, treatments, and posttest, while the data obtained through
test were analyzed with mean score and the formula of t-test. The result of the
research indicate that there was a significant enhancement of the students’
achievement after giving the treatment. The table shows that the t-test obtained by the
mean score of students’ pre-test is 58,11 and in post-test is 82,50. The students’
standard deviation of pre-test is 10,668 and the post-test is 8,316. It shows that the
mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score in pre-test 82,50> 58,11
A. Conclusions
Based on the data of the research on the previous chapter, the researcher
concludes that the result of this reserach studying vocabulary mastery through
visual media is one media can enhance the students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be
seen of the eleventh grade students’ of SMAN 30 Bone, the researcher proves the
data that the most of students get failed classification and only one student get
enough score classification with mean score of students’ pre-test is (58,11). The
students vocabulary mastery after applying visual media is significantly enhance
their vocabulary mastery, it is shows by the data that most of students get good
classification, six students get enough classification, four students get failed and
only two students is excellent classification with mean score of students’ post-test
is (82,50).
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclusiona above, some suggestions can be submitted as
follows:
1. The teacher should be creative to manage the material in the classroom
for teaching English vocabulary through visual media. Now days, the
internet is widely used by lots of people. There are many website that can
be accessed to get new teaching materials. The equipment also should be
functioned perfectly to the students in class.
2. The students of SMAN 30 Bone especially at the eleventh grade to use
visual media to enhance their vocabulary mastery. Thus, they can
memorize and understand some new vocabulary.
3. For the next reseracher is expected to be better in analyzing this research,
It is suggested that may use the research results as information or a
reference to conduct the research with the similar topic with different
subject.
