Sulfiana/02.14.4048 - Personal Name
The objective of this research is to improve students’ speaking skill. The
problem statements of this thesis is : Does The Use of Information Gap Activities
Improve the Speaking Skills at the Second Years of the Students of SMPN 6 Watampone.
This research used quantitative method with pre-experimental design. The
population of this research was the second year students of SMPN 6 watampone for
academic year of 2017/2018, selected using cluster sampling. The sample of this
research was 23 students. The researcher gave pre-test, treatment and post-test.
The result of the data showed that the mean score obtained by the students in
the post-test (16,26) is greater than the mean score of the students in pre-test (12,09).
It was proven by the result of data analysis after being compared to the t-table (2.074)
with t-test (10,679). The test result indicated that the use of information gap had
significant difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test.
A.Conclusion
Based on the result of the analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher
would like to make conclusions as follows:
1. Studying speaking through Information Gap is one technique that can improve the
students’ speaking ability. It can be seen of the students’ at the second years of
SMPN 6 Watampone, that they have prior ability of speaking before applying
Information Gap is still low. It can be seen clearly, in the pre-test, there are not
students who get excellent, very good, good and poor but only get fair score 3
(13%) and fairly poor score 20 (87%). Thus, in the pre-test most of the students
still get low score with mean score of students’ pre-test is (12,09). In post- test,
there are not students who get poor, fairly poor, fair and excellent but most of
students get good score 2 (9%), fairly good scrore 8 (34%), fair score 11 (48%),
and fairly poor score 2 (9%).Thus, in post-test most of the students get high score
with mean score of students’ post-test is (16,26). Thus, using Information Gap in
teaching speaking is influence the students’ speaking achievement.
B.SUGGESTIONS
The researcher gives suggestions to all readers and especially for teachers,
instructors and students that:
1. For the improvement of the teaching english, the researcher suggests to the
english teacher especially speaking should give a good method in teaching english
based on the students’ motivation and the teacher should be creative in creating
the teaching learning activities, the teacher should focus on teaching learning
strategis, not only focus on transferring information. Using the Information Gap
is able to improve students’ speaking ability.
2. The students can improve their speaking ability pass practice every moment.
