Developing the Students’ Reading Comprehension through PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test) Tehnique at the Fourth Semester of English Study Program of Tarbiyah Department at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bone 2017/2018

The researcher discusses about developing the students’ reading
comprehension through PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test) tehnique
at the fourth semester of English Study Program of Tarbiyah Department at IAIN
BONE. The objective of the research is aimed to develop the students reading
comprehension through PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test) technique
at the fourth semester of English Study Program of Tarbiyah Department at IAIN
BONE. The purpose of the research is to find out the students reading comprehension
after through PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test) technique from the
material of reading text
In this research apllied pre-experimental design, which is to konw whether
there is improvment or not to the subjek, that is given treatment. The researcher used
cluster sampling, which is the group 3 of the fourth semester of English Study
Program at IAIN BONE consist 19 students.
The result of this research shows that, there is significant development of the
student achivement in reading by PQRST technique. It also can be proved by the
value (p-value) is smaller than α (0,000 < 0,05). It indicates that H1 is accepted and
Ho is rejected. It is assumed that there is significant diffrence between the students’
reading comprehension before and after giving the treatment. It is proven by the mean
score of the students of post test is high than pre test. It means, that the use of PQRST
technique can develop the students reading comprehension.
A. Conclusion
Based on the research findings a discussion in the previous chapter,
the researcher found that PQRST technique develop the students reading
comprehension is reading comprehension that in pre test got 59,89 and post
test got 74,53. Using PQRST technique develop the students’ reading
comprehension at the fourth semester of English Study Program at IAIN
Bone. Increasing value from pre-test to post-test. It Is accordance with the
successfully criteria that has been in planning, action, observation and
reflection. The students’ participation and activeness develop significantly in
each meeting through PQRST technique.
B. Suggestions
Referring the conclusions above, the researcher would like to propose
some suggestions as follows:
1. For the teacher
a. The teachers are recommended to train more the students in
comprehending the same kind of the text at least for two times. It enhances the
students to be more familiar with the kind of the text and to accustom them to
find the aspects of reading in different text title.
b. The teachers are suggested to give such as a game in learning process that
attract the students’ interest and make the more enjoy full teaching
scenario.
2. For future research
Future researcher should conduct a clear time allocation for every step in
PQRST. So, the teaching learning process will be more effective and efficient.
Furthermore, in doing similar research, the reading materials and the reading
tasks could be modified based on the students’ learning ability and interest
comprehension through PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test) tehnique
at the fourth semester of English Study Program of Tarbiyah Department at IAIN
