Using Context Clues to enhance the student’s vocabulary Mastery At the Tenth Grade at SMAN 30 Bone

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the Using Context
Clues to Enhance the Student’s Vocabulary Mastery at the Tenth Grade of SMAN 30
Bone. This research included in quantitative research with two group pre-test and
post-test. This research designed the lasson plan, conducted the treatment and
observed the students’ score by pre-test and post-test. There are two variables, they
are independent variable (using Context Clues to enhance the student’s vocabulary)
and dependent variable (the vocabulary mastery of the students). The population of
this research is the students of the Tenth Grade at SMAN 30 Bone in academic yeard
2017/2018, it consisted of three classes. The total amount of the population is 92
students. The researcher choose X1 class of the tenth Grade at SMAN 30 Bone that
consists of 30 students as the sample of the research. The sample were determined
using cluster sampling technique.
Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the result of the research
after several meetings; the mean score of students’ pre-test is 60,70 and the mean
score of students’ post-test is 78,07. The students’ standard deviation pre-test is
16,346 and the students’ standard deviation post-test is 16,220. It show that the mean
score of post-test is higher that the mean score in pre-test. Therefore, null hypothesis
(H 0 ) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (H 1 ) is accepted.
A. Conclusions
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes the result of this research shows that studying vocabulary
mastery through Context Clues that has been compare to the score of teaching
vocabulary mastery by using Context Clues. It can be seen of the tenth grade
students’ of SMAN 30 Bone, the student were proved the data that the most of the
students were fail classifications.
The researcher concludes that vocabulary by using Context Clues is more
effective to enhance the students vocabulary mastery. It is because Context Clues is
more interesting. The conclusion can be seen that the result of statistic calculation
above where the value of post-test highes than pre-test. The researcher shows that
before giving treatments, one students with rate percentage 3.33 get good
classification in vocabulary mastery, 2 students with rate percentage 6.66 get
enough classification, 27 students with rate percentage 90 get fail classification,
and no one of them get excellent classification and after giving the treatments, 9
students with rate percentage 30.00 get excellent classification in vocabulary
mastery, 5 students with rate percentage 16.66 get good classification, 8 students
with rate percentage 26.66 get enough clasification, and 8 students with rate
percentage 26.66 get fail classification in vocabulary mastery.
From the explanation above, it can be known if Context Clues is very
helping enhance the students ability in English vocabulary mastery.
B. Suggestions
In view of the fact that Context Clues has been proved to enhance the
students’ vocabulary mastery.The researcher would like to give suggestions as
follows:
1. The English teacher at Senior High School 30 Bone are suggested to modify the
teaching strategy or activity that used, so the students do not feel bored when the
teacher teaching and learning process. By using the interesting activities, the
students will be more motivated so that they can enhance their vocabulary
mastery, the other skill and components in English language. One thing that
almost teacher forget, the teacher onl teach the material without think how the
material is acquired by the students. English is a language, need many practice
and exercise rather than theory. By using Context Clues in teaching learning
process, the teacher can make the class situation more live.
2. The students of Senior High School 30 Bone are suggested to be more motivated
and serious in learning English and also practice their English is not only in the
classroom but also extramural for the setting better so they can be more
mastering English.
3. For the other researcher are suggested to make further research especially
concerning on teaching vocabulary through the Context Clues or technique so
that it could help the students in resolving their problem in learning vocabulary.
