The Student’s Perception Toward Teachers’ Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension at The Fourth Semester of IAIN Bone

This research aimed to know the students perception toward teacher’s way in
teaching reading comprehension.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative research method. The data
was collected through in-depth questionnaire and interview. The subject of this
research consisted of students at TBI third semester fourth IAIN Bone. The data
analysis was employed based on procedure of data analysis suggested by Miles and
Huberman (1994) that consisted of steps data collection, reduction and display.
The result of the research showed that most students gave positive response
toward teacher’s way in teaching reading comprehension process. There were only 5
students who have negative response namely; they did not get explanation before the
class begins, they did not aware of class properly and they were not excited in
learning English. Briefly, the teacher’s way in teaching process can help, motivate
and attract them in learning English particularly the materials given related to their
daily life and simple ways and detailed explanation that can ease the students
grasping the lesson properly. Perception of the students is high with score about 31.
A. Conclusions
From the result of findings, it can be concluded that the most students gave
positive responses towards the ways of teacher in teaching and learning process
where the teacher has provided the method as students need to fulfill learning
objectives and make students can reach the goal of they read in the passage. Students
chose the positive alternative responses “agree” and strongly agree”. In contrary, this
study also identified the negative responses that given by the students. Some of the
students said that the ways of teacher in teaching in reading comprehension cannot
help, motivate and attract them in learning English, because of several reasons
namely; they did not get explanation before the class begins, they did not aware of
class properly and theywere not excited in learning English, the classroom
circumstances were not good.
B. Sugestions
After researching the actvities of the students in reading class, the researcher
suggests :
1. For the teacher should be careful in designing the material to the
students. The teacher should give explanation regarding to the
materials presented because the students need some elaboration in
order to reduce.
2. For other researchers who want to conduct further analysis consider
this topic with a larger scope of respondents, to look students’
perception toward teacher’s ways in teaching reading comprehension.
