The Effectiveness of Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Schema Technique At Tenth Grade of SMAN 13 Bone

This research is conducted about the effectiveness of students’ reading
comprehension through schema technique at tenth grade at SMAN 13 Bone.The
problem statements of this research are does the use of scheme technique improve the
students’ reading comprehension and does the use of scheme technique motivate the
students in reading comprehension.
This research used quantitative method. The sample consisted of 30 students
from IPS Class at SMAN 13 Bone. The researcher gave pretest, treatments, and
posttest. The data on the students’ reading achievement were analyzed by using SPSS
23 and data on the students’ motivation were analyzed by using Likert scale.
The result of the analysis shows that using schema technique improve the
students’reading comprehension.It can be shown by the diffrences of the mean score
obtained by the students in the post-test (64.84) is greater than the mean score of the
students in pre-test (33.48). The researcher inferred that the students’ reading
comprehension improve through schema technique. So, it could be concluded that
using schema technique motivate students in reading comprehension.
A. Conclusion
1. Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher
concluded the result of this research showed that studying reading comprehension
through schema technique is one material that can improve the students’ reading
comprehension. It can be seen of the students of the tenth grade of SMAN 13 Bone
that they have prior to improve of reading comprehension before applying schema
technique is high. The researcher proved the data that the most of students get good
score and only little student is very poor score classification with mean score of
students’ pre-test is (33,48). The students reading comprehension after applying
schema technique is significantly improve their reading comprehension, it is showed
by the data that most of students get good score with mean score of students’ post-test
is (64,84).
2. Based on the result of questionnaire, it concludes that the students’ motivation
enlarge during using this technique. The students’ motivation in studying reading
comprehension by schema technique is categorized as strongly motivated by the
mean score 43.33%. Students’ background knowledge on the topic of the materials
can help them to understand easily while the good atmosphere in the class can help
students enjoy the learning process.
B.Suggestions
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher addresses the following
suggestion:
1. It is strongly suggested that using schema technique in teaching reading
comprehension be continually implemented at tenth grade of SMAN 13 Bone in
order to avoid monotonous material.
2. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggests to the
English teacher especially reading should give the good method in teaching
English based on the students’ motivation.
