Improving the students’ pronunciation through homophone games of MAN 2 Watampone (Case Study In The Second Grade Periode 2014-2015)

This thesis aims at finding out improving the students’ pronunciation through homophone games. The problem statement of this thesis is “Can the homophone games improving the students’ pronunciation at the students of MAN 2 Watampone?”
The method is used in this research is quantitative. The population of this research is 117 students from five classes. The researcher uses cluster sampling technique and takes class Exact as the sample which consist of 19 students. The test is used to find out the data about the students’ pronunciation.
This thesis is supported by the inferential. The table shows that the mean score obtained by the students in the post-test (73.6) is greater than the mean score of the students in pretest (46.3). It means that H0 is rejected and H1 is acceptable. Homophone games strategy has given better result to improve the students’ pronunciation. In other words, homophone games are effective in teaching English pronunciation. The descriptive analysis shows that the students’ pronunciation improve after receiving treatment through homophone games
A. Conclusions
Based on the result of analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that: Using homophone games can improve the students’ pronunciation. It had proved by the data of students score in pre-test and post test before and after using homophone games. The table of both score had showed that the students’ mean score in the post test (46.3) is higher than the mean score of the students in pre- test (73.6). And the result of data analyzed in the t-test is 11.414 was higher than t-table = 2.101 at level significance α 0.05 and df 18. Thus the result shows that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. From the result above, we can also see the difference between t-test and t-table is very significant .The students’ pronunciation influence after doing some treatments through homophopne games. So, it can be concluded that using homophone games can improve students’ pronunciation to the eleventh grade of MAN 2 Watampone.
B. Suggestions
In view of fact that using homophone games to pronunciation, has been proved being more effective the students’ pronunciation in learning English, the researcher would like to give suggestions are follows:
1. For the improvement of the teaching of English. The researcher suggests that the teacher of English especially pronunciation should give the good method in teaching English based on the students’ interest. Using homophone games strategy can improve students’ pronunciation.
2. The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the classroom for teaching english such as using various strategies.
3. The English teacher should using as one of the effective ways to stimulate the students’ ability in extending their pronunciation comprehension.
