DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY BY USING GUESSING WORD GAME IN SMP NEGERI 1 PALAKKA

This thesis presents research about developing students’ vocabulary by using guessing word game in SMPN 1 Palakka. The problem statement is can guessing word game develop the students vocabulary in the second year in SMP Negeri 1 Palakka.rnThis research employed pre-experimental method with pretest and post-test design. There are two variables they are independent variable (students’ vocabulary) and dependent variable (guessing word game). rnIn conducting the study, the writer used quantitative method because the writer conducted the data in form of numbers. And the way collected data by using pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. It is used to measure and interpret the data. The purpose of this method is to carry out an experiment whether teaching vocabulary by using guessing word game in develop the students’ vocabulary or do not. rnAfter data was collected and the result of the test was obtained to prove the hypothesis and to establish the validity, the researcher analyzed the value of t-observation. It was proved by the result of students’ test (pre-experimental). The table shows that the mean score obtained by the students in the posttest (76, 30) is greater than the mean score of the students in pretest (32,17). It means that H0 is rejected and H1 is acceptable. rnGuessing word game gives better result to develop the students’ vocabulary. In other words, guessing word game is effective to use in teaching English vocabulary.rnA.Conclussion rnBased on data analysis on the discussion, the reseacher concludes that after usingGuessing Word Game at the second grade of SMP Negeri 1 Palakka is effective to develop the students’ vocabulary . It can be seen that the students’ prior knowledge of vocabulary before applying Guessing Word Game was still low, it is provided by the data that all of the students almost were not success, no one students got fairly good, good, very good and excellent score, only 1 students got fair score with mean score of the students’ pre-test was 32,17. Students’ achievement in vocabulary after applying guessing word game is significantly develop, it was shown by the data that 3 students got very good score with mean score of the students’ post-test was 76,30. It means that post-test was higher than pre-test.rnB. SuggestionrnIn relation to the subject discussed in this thesis and in order to improve the teaching of vocabulary to the students, the researcher present some suggestion as follows:rn1.The teacher is expected to know that guessing word game can be reference in teaching vocabulary as one alternative teaching technique and it is not only in teaching vocabulary but also for the others skill.rn2.English teachers should enchance their knowledge and their ability in teaching. They should use an interesting technique to attract students’ attention and make the students learn comfortable and relaxed.rn3.It is recommended for English teachers to apply guessing word game as a way to develop the students’ vocabulary.rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrn
