This thesis presents research about The Effectiveness of direct method to improve students‘ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of MTs Negeri Watampone. Learning English especially for vocabulary, the students lazy to memorize or use English as a target language in class. Direct method is one of methods which can help the students‘ to memorize about vocabulary naturally. The problem statement of this thesis, is the use of direct method effective to improve students‘ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of MTsN Watampone. This research used quantitative method. The sample consisted of 33 students of VII K of MTs Negeri Watampone. The researcher gave pretest, treatment, and posttest, while the data obtain through test were analyzed with mean score and the formula of t-test. The result of the study shown that, there is a significant improvement of the students‘ vocabulary mastery after giving treatments. It is provided in the table in chapter IV. The table shows that the t-test obtained by the student (14.98) is greater that t-table (1.69389). It means that H0 is rejected and H1 is acceptable. From the data could be known that the effectiveness of using direct method has benefit to improve student‘s vocabulary mastery.rnA. ConclusionrnTeaching vocabulary through direct method has effective to improve Student‘s vocabulary shown from pretest and posttest. Based on the result of the research on the previous chapter, the researcher comes to conclusion. Direct method is effective to improve student‘s vocabulary mastery. It is provided in the data that most of the students mean score in pre-test was 27.97 and it increased after applying direct method. The students‘ mean score in post-test was 63.93. Based on the significant test that there is significance difference between the result of the students‘ pre-test and post test achievement after giving treatment by using direct method in teaching English especially to improve students‘ vocabulary mastery.rnB. SuggestionsrnThe researcher gives suggestions to all readers. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggests to the English teacher especially when teach vocabulary should improve their way in teaching English, especially in teaching vocabulary in order to increase the student‘s vocabulary and teacherrnshould master many vocabulary than their student when teach the student in classroom. Then, for the student, student‘s should be active in learning English not only depending on the materials given by teacher in the classroom and should improve their vocabulary by reading or listening conversation or music. At least, There are many methods which can be used to increase students‘ vocabulary mastery and make the learning process more fun . Direct method is one of the method which can be used or teachers can use another technique which is appropriate with the subject which will be learned.rn
