Online English Learning through Smartphone among the Eight Grade of SMPN Watampone

The objectives of this research were to know how the process of Online
English learning through Smartphone at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Watampone and
to know the students’ perceptions toward the use of Smartphone in learning online
informal English. This research was undertaken as qualitative design by using
interview and observation to collect data or information about the process of online
learning and the students’ perception about students’ experience toward online
learning through smartphone. The subject of this research were the students of SMPN
1 Watampone especially at 8th grade. The the researcher interview five students to
know their perceptions.
As the result, 1.) the process of online learning, the students seem enthusiast
and are able to accomplish the task given, the teacher has prepared the material very
well. Online learning has advantages such as flexibility, increasing the students’
confidence to speak, and online learning is suitable with a variety of students’
learning style, 2.) The students’ perception about online learning, the students
admitted that they are happy and feel satisfied learning by online through smartphone
because the student feel that online learning is interesting and something new due to
the teacher prepares the material very well
A. Conclusion
1. The Process of Online English Learning through smartphone among the
students of eighth grade of SMPN 1 Watampone
The online learning process in SMPN 1 Watampone has conducted during
almost one semester. The students seem enthusiasm in doing online learning.
Online learning has many advantages such as flexible to access wherever and
whenever the students are. So it can reduce the students’ absent/ increasing the
student attendance in learning process. Online learning by smartphone also suits a
variety of learning style. However, However, there are some obstacles on online
learning through smartphone such as poor network, need more space, and need
much internet quota
2. The students’ Perceptions toward the use of Smartphone on Online
English Learning.
Online learning has been conducting about one semester, the students’
feeling during online learning by smartphone is very delighted because it is very
interested and something new for the students. Some materials have taught such
as simple present, storytelling, etc. The students who are introvert or less
confident feel not fear or nervous anymore when they are asked to speak due to
the student are not speaking in front of their friend exclusively. The students
admitted that they are satisfying because the teacher implements the suitable
strategy and materials are well prepared.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion in this present research, suggestion proposed to:
1. For Teacher
The teacher should make innovation on teaching and learning activities in
order to online learning by smartphone can be an interesting learning activity so
that the students can comprehend the material given and suitable with the
students’ need.
2. For Student
The students should prepare themselves with information around online
learning and get ready all arrangement well, so that learning can run ideally.
3. For Next researcher
This research is expected the next researcher use this research as reference
and can conduct the research deeper related to the online learning process by
smartphone
