This study examines the effect of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method
on students' speaking skills at SMP Negeri 2 Ponre. Using a qualitative
descriptive approach, data were collected through classroom observations and
interviews with 10 students. The results show that the TPR method enhances
students' speaking abilities by increasing participation, confidence, and
vocabulary retention. Students responded positively to movement-based learning,
which facilitated better comprehension and engagement. However, some
challenges, such as inconsistencies in movement execution and reduced interest
due to repetitive actions, were identified. These findings contribute to the
discourse on effective language teaching methods, particularly in improving
speaking proficiency through interactive learning.

A. Conclusion
After conducting the research, the researcher concluded that the findings of
this research reveal that the Total Physical Response (TPR) method is a highly effective
approach to teaching speaking skills in junior high school students. Despite the benefit,
the research also identified certain challenges, including the need for consistency in
movement demonstrations and the potential monotony of repetitive actions. These
challenges underline the importance of careful planning and teacher training to maximize
the effectiveness of TPR. In conclusion, the TPR method offers significant potential for
improving English language education, particularly in the area of speaking skills. Its
ability to combine fun and effective learning makes it a valuable tool for educators
seeking to create dynamic and engaging classrooms. With proper implementation and
continuous refinement, TPR can contribute to the development of confident, skilled, and
motivated language learners.
B. Suggestions
Based on the previously described findings, the researcher write
recommendations as follows.
1. For Teachers: Teachers should ensure consistency in the movements used
during TPR sessions to avoid confusion among students. They should also
incorporate a variety of movements and activities to sustain student
interest. Utilizing visual aids like pictures or real objects can further
enhance the learning experience. Regular training sessions and workshops
on TPR implementation are recommended to equip teachers with the
necessary skills.

2. For Schools: Schools should consider adopting TPR as a core component
of their English curriculum, especially for younger learners. Allocating
resources for teacher training and providing supportive teaching materials
will ensure the method's effective implementation. Collaboration among
educators to share insights and strategies can further optimize the use of
TPR in classrooms.
3. For Future Researchers: Future studies should aim to include a larger and
more diverse sample to enhance the generalizability of findings.
Investigating the long-term effects of TPR on language acquisition and
exploring its integration with other teaching methods could provide deeper
insights into its potential. Additionally, examining the method's
application in different educational contexts and age groups would offer a
more comprehensive understanding of its impact.
