Applying The Role Play As An English Learning Method To Develop The Student’s Pronunciation Ability

This study is expected to be able to develop students' English, especially in terms
of pronunciation, by using the role play method. The lack of students'
pronunciation skills is the focus of this study. Qualitative data collection methods
are used to determine the effect of implementing role play on the development of
junior high school students' pronunciation skills in Bone. Case studies were
chosen as the research design in this study. Participants in this study were students
of SMPN 2 Barebbo. The application of role play as an English learning method
shows positive results. This approach helps students develop relevant skills that
can be applied in everyday life. The study also shows that role play has a positive
effect on improving students' pronunciation skills, in line with the theory of
constructivism which emphasizes the importance of active involvement in
learning.
A. CONCLUSION
The applying of role play as a method of learning English shows positive
results. Students actively participate when divided into groups to play the roles
given, pay close attention to the teacher's explanation, and engage in good
interactions with fellow students and the teacher. Role play requires active
involvement of students, makes learning more enjoyable and allows the
application of knowledge in real contexts. This approach helps students develop
relevant skills that can be applied in everyday life. Research also shows that role
play has a positive effect on improving students' pronunciation ability, in line with
the constructivism theory which emphasizes the importance of active involvement
in learning.
B. SUGGESTION
1. For Teacher
1). The English teacher can use role play technique in English learning in the
classroom, because this technique is effective to develop the students’
pronunciation ability and the teacher can give more motivation to the students to
be more active in teaching and learning process
2). Careful Planning

Plan the role play scenario carefully, making sure the topic chosen is
relevant to the material being taught and interesting to students. Prepare a variety
of scenarios to keep students interested.
3). Utilization of Media and Aids
Use media and aids, such as costumes, props, or video recordings, to make
the role play more interesting and realistic. This will help students get more
involved in their roles.
2. For Students
1). Active Participation
Be actively involved in each role play session. Active participation will
help you understand the material better and develop your speaking and
communication skills.
2). Continuous Practice
Take advantage of time outside of class to practice role plays with friends.
Continuous practice will strengthen your speaking skills and help you feel more
comfortable speaking English.
3). Receiving and Giving Feedback
Receive feedback from your teacher and friends in a positive manner, and
use it to improve your skills. Also, give constructive feedback to your friends to
help them improve.
4). Overcoming Shyness and Nervousness
Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Think of role plays as an opportunity to
learn and grow. It's normal to feel shy and nervous, but try to stay confident and
focused on learning.
3. For Future Researcher
1).Expanding the Research Sample:
It is recommended to expand the number of research samples by involving
more classes or schools. This will provide more representative and valid data.
2). In-depth Qualitative Research:
Conduct in-depth qualitative research to understand students' and teachers'
perceptions of the role play method. This can include in-depth interviews and case
studies that provide more detailed insights into their experiences.
3). Application of Diverse Methods:
Combine role play with other learning methods such as group discussions,
presentations, and projects to see how these methods can complement each other
and improve student learning outcomes.
