Observing of Teachers Based on Gender Differences in Teaching English as Foreign Language Learning Activity At Tenth Grade Of SMKN 1 Bone

This research aims to know the differences between male and female teacher
in teaching English in the classroom. This research took place at SMKN 1 Bone. The
subject of this research is the male and female English teacher of SMKN 1 Bone.
The research used qualitative design with observation and interview as
instrument of the research. The observation that used was observation check list
model. It aimed to observe the teaching process of both teachers in the classroom.
While the interview word opens ended question that focused to find out the teaching
technique of the male and female teacher when teach English.
The research result shows that there are several differences of teaching
process of male and female teacher in teaching English. The male teacher seems more
active in the classroom. The students seem enthusiasm follow the class because the
male teacher teaches relaxed and beg the students practicing after giving explanation.
On the other side, the female teacher gives less practice than theory. The female
teacher mostly explains the material until the students understand.
According to the interview, the male teacher prepared the teaching material
from book and internet, combine and develop it to taught in the class. While the
female teacher teaches mostly based on the text book that have been prepared by the
school.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher draws conclusion of the teachers’
differences in teaching English as foreign language learning activity. The
researcher took 1 male and 1 female teachers as the object of this research. Based
on the research, from the results of classroom observations, researchers found
differences and similarities between male and female teachers in teaching in the
classroom. In terms of differences, namely male teachers are more skilled in
teaching English by developing teaching material that is easier for students to
learn. Male teacher uses internet media in the management of material that will be
given to students. It means he adjusts material that has been developed from the
internet and adjusts to the curriculum at school. While the female teacher of
material management raced on the school textbooks, which were distributed to
students according to the applicable curriculum. And all teaching materials are
listed in the textbook.
Each teacher has different skills in developing the material before it is
given to students. As for the similarities of male and female teachers in teaching
that is, the methods or techniques used are teacher center and learner center.
Bearing in mind that the ability of students in learning English can be said to be
below average.
From the interviews the researchers found the teacher's difficulty in teaching
English. Lack of interest and enthusiasm of students in learning, they assume that
English is a material that is difficult to learn. And student participation in learning
is very lacking, Seen the provision of courses in schools with very little interest.
B. Suggestion
Considering the conclusion above some suggestion are presented in this
part. This research will hopefully contribute both practical and theoretical values.
Observing of teacher based on gender differences in teaching English as
forging language activity, in this research the researcher would like to give some
suggestion to the teacher, the students and the other researcher.
1. For the Teacher
The teacher should pay attention to the students’ pay attention to
students who are less active and who still have sub-standard knowledge. And
the teacher must have an interesting method or learning technique, so that
students are not easily bored in learning. The teacher also may give
motivation to students how important to learn English.
2. For the students
The students should learn more about English. Improve their
knowledge in English, not only in peaking but also all the skills in English.
The students have to pay attention to learn English. Because English is
because English is an international language, and an important part in the
world of education.
3. For the other researcher
For the other researcher, this research could be a reference to make
another researcher related to this research. Try to use the teacher gender
differences in teaching English as foreign language.
