The Students Difficulties in Memorizing Vocabulary in Learning English at Madrasah Aliyah Tinco

This thesis presents research about the students difficulties in memorizing
vocabulary in learning English at Madrasah Aliyah Tinco. The aim of this research
was to find out the students' difficulties in memorizing vocabulary in learning English.
This research used a qualitative method. This research used purposive sampling
technique in selecting the participant. There were one teacher and ten students. The
data were collecting by interview and documentation. The data were analyzed by
reduction, display, and verification. Based on the result of interview, the researcher
found that students have difficulty in memorizing vocabulary in learning English, it
can be seen that they still having difficulty in memorizing vocabulary include the
following; pronunciation, spelling, length & complexity, and meaning.
A. Conclusion
Based on the research results that have been stated in the previous discussion,
the following conclusions can be drawn:
1. The first difficulty found by students when memorizing vocabulary is difficulty
in mentioning the vocabulary students have difficulty in pronouncing the
vocabulary so that it makes students difficult to remember the vocabulary that
must be memorized
2. Students find it difficult to memorize vocabulary in English because students
have difficulty with the spelling of the vocabulary to be memorized this causes
students to find it difficult to remember the vocabulary
3. Some students still have difficulty in memorizing lengthy and complex
vocabulary. Students prefer simpler vocabulary because it is easier to remember
when memorizing vocabulary
4. Students who have difficulty in memorizing vocabulary because they are not
familiar with the English vocabulary, so they are not able to distinguish
between the use of vocabulary words in English which have multiple meanings.
Based on the results above, it can be concluded that students have difficulty in
memorizing vocabulary in learning English, it can be seen that they still having
difficulty in memorizing vocabulary include the following; pronunciation, spelling,
length & complexity, and meaning.
B. Suggestion
In English knowledge, students need a lot of practice and use techniques or
methods that can help students in learning English, especially in terms of memorizing
vocabulary. Students need techniques or methods that are interesting and easy to
apply in everyday life so that it makes it easier for students to remember vocabulary.
Some of the difficulties encountered become learning materials and reference sources
for students.
