The Effectiveness of Learning Grammar to Reduce the Students`Grammatical Errors in Writing at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 15 Bone

This study purposes to know the effect of grammar learning in reducing students‟
grammatical error and also to know what are the common grammatical errors that the
students do in writing. The researcher chose SMAN 15 Bone as the place of
conducting the research where she took the eleventh grade of SMAN 15 Bone
students of the eighth grade as the samples. This research is a qualitative research.
There are two instruments used in this research, they are questionnaire and writing
test. The first research step done of the researcher was giving six treatments related to
the common material about grammar in generaly and specifically about recount text.
After the treatment, the researcher gave questionnaire and writing test. The result of
questionnaire as the answer of the first research question showes that by
implementing grammar learning, it can be effective in reducing the students‟
grammatical error at the eleventh grade of SMAN 15 Bone.While based on the
second research question, there is a research opinion after passing the analysis stage
one by one student test results that there are 3 parts of grammar that are still dominant
errors occur by students consisting of tense, sentence pattern, and pronoun.
A. Conclusion
Based on the first research question, from the result in the previous finding
of questionnaire, the researcher found out that learning grammar is effective in
reducing the students‟ grammatical error at the eleventh grade of SMAN 15 Bone.
The result showed based on the final result where there were nine students who
choose the answer "Yes" related to the effectiveness of grammar learning in
reducing students' grammatical error. Whereas only one student likely to vote
"No" or in Low classification on statements related to grammar learning in
reducing students' grammatical error While based on the second research question
related to the common grammatical errors that the students did in writing at
eleventh grade of SMAN 15 Bone, the result showed that there are 3 parts of
grammar that are still dominant errors made by students consisting of tense,
sentence pattern, and pronoun.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher put some suggestion as
follows:
1. For Teacher
The teacher conveyed by researcher is at least to do the process of
grammar learning. Hopefully the teachers can provide more intense grammar
learning so that they can understand their function in a sentence and also
reducing grammatical errors.
2. For Students
For students, they are expected to follow the English learning
procedures delivered by the teacher well so as to maximize the learning
process of Grammar.
3. For Researcher
For the future to prospective researchers who want to do research on
effective learning methods to improve students‟ grammar implementation, it
can make this research as a reference. In addition, the researcher also hope
that prospective researchers can produce the better research in the future.
