The Use of Let's Read Application To Improve Students' Reading Comprehension in Junior High School

This research aimed to find out whether the use of the Let's Read application
improves reading comprehension of junior high school students. The research was
conducted using a quantitative method with a pre-experimental research design.
The sample consisted of 29 students from class IX A at SMPN 3 Watampone,
selected through a cluster random sampling technique. Data collection was carried
out using tests, namely pre-test and post-test, as instruments. The tests were
conducted to see if the Let’s Read Application improves reading comprehension.
The data were collected by administering a pre-test, providing treatment, and then
conducting a post-test. After obtaining the test scores, the data were analyzed using
SPSS 27. The results of the data analysis showed that the average score in the pre-
test was 59.31 and increased to 83.79 in the post-test. The t-test value was higher
than the t-table value (6.617 > 1.713). This means that there was a significant
difference between students’ pre-test and post-test results. Therefore, the null
hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted.
This indicates that the use of the Let's Read application significantly improves
students’ reading comprehension.
A. Conclusion
After conducting research at SMPN 3 Watampone and going
through the data analysis process, it was concluded that the use of the Let's
Read application improves students' reading comprehension. This was
proven by a significant increase in the average score of the students after the
post-test was conducted. This proved that the use of the Let's Read
application could improve students' reading comprehension.
The limitations of this research are that it was only conducted in one
class at one junior high school, and the limited research time meant that the
duration of treatment using the Let's Read application was relatively short.
In addition, this research only focused on reading comprehension and did
not measure other language skills that may also be affected by the use of the
Let's Read application.
B. Suggestion
Based on the research results and the implementation of the learning
process using the Let's Read application, the researcher offers suggestions
that are expected to be beneficial for institutions and researchers. The
suggestions are as follows:
1. For education, using the Let's Read app in the learning process is one of
the most effective learning media for English lessons because it can
increase students' interest in learning and their reading comprehension.
2. For teachers or educators, the researcher hopes that they can apply the
Let's Read application as one of the alternative media in learning, which

is proven to improve students' reading comprehension, so that the
learning process can run optimally and learning outcomes can improve.
3. Hopefully, this thesis can be useful for researchers and readers. It is
hoped that readers can find out about the use of the Let's Read
application in the process of learning and teaching English. It is also
hoped that future researchers can conduct research to find other benefits
of using the Let's Read application and other learning methods that can
improve students' reading comprehension in English.
