The Effectiveness of Active Recall with Jigsaw method Toward Students’ Vocabulary Ability in Junior High School

This research aimed to find out whether the use of Active Recall with
Jigsaw method is effective on students’ vocabulary ability at the eighth grade of
SMP Negeri 4 Awangpone. This research used a quantitative approach and
employed a Pre-experimental design that one-group pretest-posttest design. The
populations of this research were the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4
Awangpone. The sample of this research consisted of 24 students from class VIII
C class, selected using the cluster random sampling technique. The data of this
research were collected by giving the pre-test, treatment and then post-test. After
getting the test score, the data were analyzed and processed by using formula in
Excel 2007 and the t-test formula in SPSS 27 software. The results of this
research showed that the use Active Recall with Jigsaw method was effective on
students’ vocabulary ability. The result of this research was the value of
significance (2-tailed) was lower than the significance level (0.000 1.713). It meant
that, this had a significant difference between the results of the students’ pre-test
and pots-test. Therefore, hypothesis H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. It can
be said that the use of Active Recall with Jigsaw was effective on students’
vocabulary ability at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 4 Awangpone.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and the discussion in the previous
chapter, the researcher concluded that the use of Active Recall with the
Jigsaw Method was effective on students’ vocabulary ability at the
eighth grade of SMP Negeri 4 Awangpone. It was proved from the
result of the test showed that there was a significant difference between
students' pre-test and post-test. Where the calculated significant value
was 0.000 less than 0.05, and also, the t-test value was higher than the
t-table value (t-test 17.230 > t-table 1.697). It meant that the H0 was
rejected and H1 was accepted; it was seemed that the use of Active
Recall with jigsaw method was effective on students’ vocabulary
ability.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion presented above, the researcher tries to
give some suggestions for English teacher, the next researchers and
anyone who read this thesis as follows:

For Education
Using Active Recall with Jigsaw method in teaching and learning process is one of the most effective learning method for
English lesson or other lesson because it can increase the students’
interest in learning.

For Students
For the students, to implement the Active Recall with the
jigsaw method is effective for teaching vocabulary because this
research effective their vocabulary.
3.
For the Next Researchers
The results of this research can be useful as a reference for
further researchers who want to conduct further research on the
effectiveness of Active Recall with Jigsaw Method toward
students’ vocabulary ability. The researcher also suggests that
future researchers can add a large sample size and come from
various backgrounds of different educational institutions to
increase the generalization of the research results.
