Student's Perception of E-Book Reading Program Via Zoom at Private University in Bone Regency

The purpose of this study was to investigate the benefits and obstacles faced by
students while participating in the e-book reading program via Zoom
implemented at the Muhammadiyah University of Bone; this study applies a
qualitative method with a case study research design. This research instrument,
interviews, and observations were used to collect data from third-semester
students with extensive reading lessons. Informants were selected using snowball
sampling. This study shows that students get benefits that are felt during the e-
book reading program via Zoom, such as a) interaction and involvement. b)
Understanding of the material. c) Flexibility and efficiency. d) Ease of use and
varied features. While the obstacles experienced are a) distractions experienced
by students (internal or external), such as notifications from devices and feelings
of boredom, fatigue, or drowsiness, which often make students switch to other
applications. External disturbances, such as environmental noise, also interfere
with the learning process, especially during Zoom sessions. b) Technical
difficulties such as poor internet connections, which affect image and sound
quality, and the need for large storage space on devices with the use of e-books.
c) eye fatigue.
A. Conclusion
The e-book reading program via Zoom provides many benefits for
students, such as better understanding of the material through interactive
discussions with lecturers and classmates. This program increases interest and
motivation to read because it provides flexibility in time and place and reduces
operational and transportation costs. Easily accessible e-books and zoom that
support direct interaction enrich the student's learning experience. With this
method, students can learn more efficiently, practically, and in an
environmentally friendly way.
Although it has several benefits, the e-book reading program via Zoom
also has obstacles that need to be overcome, namely internal and external
disturbances that affect student concentration in online learning sessions.
Internal disturbances such as notifications from devices and feelings of
boredom, fatigue, or drowsiness often make students switch to other
applications. External disturbances, such as environmental noise, also interfere
with the learning process, especially during Zoom sessions. Technical
problems such as poor internet connections, which affect image and sound
quality, and the need for large storage space on devices with the use of e-
books. In addition, eye fatigue due to exposure to screens that are too bright
and myopia can also reduce learning comfort and affect student concentration.
B. Suggestion
1. For English teacher
This research is expected to help teachers to anticipate the
obstacles experienced by students in the e-book reading program through
Zoom to make it more interesting and interactive.
2. For students
This research is expected to help students utilize e-book reading
programs as a resource to improve their reading skills and communicate
regularly with teachers about any obstacles they face.
3. For the next researcher
This research is expected to help future researchers to conduct
further research on the long-term impact of using Zoom and e-books on
student motivation and learning outcomes.
The researcher also expects this research could be given advantages and
source of knowledge as information especially for English educations. Besides
that, this thesis was far from being perfect, because of that; constructive critics
and advice are really expected to support this thesis in the future.
