This thesis presents the research about the effectiveness of teaching modal
auxiliary at the eighth grade of MTs.AN-Nurain Lonrae.This research use
Quantitative method. The sample of this research is the eighth grade of MTs. AN-
Nurain. The collecting data of pre-test and post-test scores are analyz and describe
to determine the success of the treatment. The mean score of students’ pre-test is
43.86 and the mean score of students’ post-test is 64.21. It show that there is a
significant difference of students’ achievement of modal auxiliary. It was also
show by the result of Sig. (2-tailed) 0,001< 0,05. Modal auxiliaries is highly
interest for students. There 1 student (5,26%) is very high category, 14 students
(73,69%) are high category, 3 (15,79%) students are moderate category and only
1 (5,26%) student is low category. Based on the result of data analysis, the
researcher concludes that teaching modal auxiliaries is effective at the eighth
grade of MTs.AN-Nurain Lonrae.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and the data analyzing that have explained in the
chapter3, the researcher concludes as follow :
1. Modal Auxiliaries was effective to use in teaching English at the eighth grade
students of MTs.AN-Nurain Lonrae. The data showed that the mean score of
students’ post test result was higher than of students’ pre test result (64,21 >
43,86) and also the result of sig. (2-tailed) of paired sample t-test (0,000) was
smaller than 0,05. So, it can be concluded that there was a significant increasing
in students’ achievement after applying the treatments.
2. The result of questionnaire which have been distributed showed that the number
of students who chose very high category was 1 (5,26%) student, 14 (73,69%)
students chose high category and 3 (15,79%) student chose moderate and only 1
(5,26%) student chose low category. No one chose very low chategory. So, it
can be concluded modal auxiliaries vocabulary was highly interesting for eighth
grade students of MTs.AN-NurainLonrae.
B. Suggestion
In order to create an effective teaching learning process, the researcher gives
suggestion to all readers, especially to English teacher and to the students as follows :
1. The English teacheris expected to apply an appropriate technique in teaching-
learning process that effectively can make students learning English easier.
2. The English teacher is expected to be creative in manage the teaching material
and the classroom.
3. The students are expected to increase their interest and ability in learning
English.
