Students Strategies To Conquer Public Speaking Anxiety In The Eleventh Grade Of MAN 2 BONE

This study aims to explore the strategies used by eleventh-grade students of
MAN 2 Bone to conquer public speaking anxiety. Public speaking anxiety is a
common issue that can hinder students' performance and confidence in oral
presentations. Through a qualitative approach, data was collected using interviews
and observations. The findings indicate that students employ a variety of strategies,
including preparation and practice, relaxation techniques, seeking peer support, and
mental visualization to manage their anxiety. The approaches discussed include
mental and physical preparation, such as breathing exercises, positive visualization,
and relaxation techniques. In addition, the importance of repeated practice,
managing negative thoughts, and understanding the audience are also discussed as
key factors in increasing self-confidence when speaking in public. By adopting
these strategies, individuals can reduce anxiety levels and increase the effectiveness
of their communication. This article also emphasizes that overcoming anxiety is a
process that requires time and persistence, and needs to be done gradually to achieve
optimal results.
A. Conclusion
The purpose of this study was to find out how nervous students were
about giving public speeches and to gather enough data to demonstrate
how common this fear is. The purpose of reviewing the literature was to
describe earlier studies in the same topic, validate earlier findings, and
expand upon them. The study's findings demonstrate that public speaking
anxiety is a learned skill that can be conquered with enough practice prior
to a presentation or speech, and that individuals with this phobia may
perform on par with adept public speakers. Students who are nervous about
public speaking can benefit from the following strategies.
The study's findings, which are based on research questions with two
conclusions, include the ability levels of the students to speak anxiously in
English class and the most common factors that lead to speaking anxiety
in MAN 2 BONE students in the eleventh grade. The first conclusion is
based on the speaking anxiety level of MAN 2 BONE students in the
eleventh grade. Researchers discovered that students may be hesitant to
speak in front of the class because they constantly worry
about being laughed at and judged by their peers. This could cause kids'
speaking anxiety to increase, leading them to choose silence over
speaking.
The second finding is that a number of factors contribute to the speaking
anxiety that MAN 2 BONE students in the eleventh grade suffer. Fear of
Negative Evaluation is the main factor contributing to students' speaking
anxiety because it makes them feel more nervous and afraid to start
speaking in front of the class because they don't feel confident in their own
English language skills. Students sometimes believe the teacher will
always be correct about anything they say in English class, especially
when it comes to speaking. This explains why pupils never have the
courage to speak English since they don't feel it at that moment and are
constantly looking with poor self-esteem. While they are confident in their
english speaking abilities, students often find it difficult to talk for fear of
being judged negatively by teachers and fellow students if they make
mistakes.
B. Suggestion
After performing this study, the researcher believes that the results
will alert educators and learners to the fact that certain classroom scenarios
can cause speaking anxiety. But, there are other techniques offered that the
learner may use as a substitute to get over their speaking nervousness.
Researchers hope that educators will be aware of these kinds of situations
and refrain from creating them; similarly, they hope that students acting as
presenters will refrain from creating situations that
cause their friends to feel uneasy. Lastly, there are a number of strategies
available for students acting as presenters to choose from. Tailored to their
requirements and preferences, even if they are not required to use it all.
Additionally, based on the study's findings, it is possible to carry out
additional research on the causes of speech anxiety and developing coping
mechanisms. This is because the researcher's discussion focused solely on
speaking anxiety causes. How certain circumstances cause speaking
anxiety is not explained. Furthermore, the methods used to assist pupils in
overcoming their speaking nervousness are not explained. Therefore,
doing such kind of research is essential for future researchers.
The researcher wishes to provide the following recommendations for
future researchers and teachers based on the findings of this study: Since
teachers act as facilitators and create a comfortable environment for
learning, they should constantly be ready for the possibility that the
majority of their pupils may feel nervous. In the English classroom in
particular, teachers must inspire and excite their pupils when they speak in
front of the class. Since each student requires more practice to identify
their preferred method of learning, teachers can also implement different
learning styles in the classroom. One method the instructor can use in the
classroom is Communicative Language Teaching. This approach aims to
assist students in communicating more accurately and successfully in
situations that are realistic and may arise in their lives. Focusing on
crucial life skills including proposing, expressing gratitude, inviting,
griping, and requesting something is part of this training methodol
