Analysis of Students Problems in Reading Comprehension Through Questioning Techniquess

This research aims to analyze students' problems in reading
comprehension at SMP 1 Watampone through questioning technique. The method
used is qualitative with data collection through observation, and interviews.The
researcher selected 5 students to be observed and interviewed. In this step, the
researcher used a mobile phone to record data from the interview. Notes were also
used as another instrument to obtain additional information.The results of the
research indicate that students face several problems, such as difficulty
understanding vocabulary, lack of motivation, and difficulty in drawing
conclusions from the text. Questioning techniques have proven effective in
identifying and overcoming these problems, because they encourage students to
think critically and actively in the learning process. This research recommends the
application of more structured questioning techniques in teaching and learning
activities to improve students' reading comprehension.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the research and analysis in the previous
chapter, the researcher concluded that there were several problems and that
caused students to have difficulty in reading comprehension. In this research,
the researcher found four things that were students' problems in reading
comprehension, namely difficulty in understanding words, determining main
ideas, understanding vocabulary, making conclusions. And the causes of
students' problems in reading comprehension include lack of interest in
reading, poor vocabulary mastery, lack of concentration in reading, lack of
proper reading comprehension techniques, and Less supportive classroom
atmosphere.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions above, the researcher provides some
suggestions for teachers, students, and further researchers. The results of this
research are expected to provide information about what problems students
have in understanding reading and what causes students' problems in reading
comprehension. In addition, it can also be used as a reference for other
researchers.
1. For teachers
Teachers should observe the difficulties faced by students when
reading texts in English so that they should help students solve their
problems in reading comprehension. After knowing some of the problems
and causes of theses difficulties, teachers can apply the right learning
methods well.
2. For students
Students should improve their vocabulary, by reading English
textbooks, finding the meaning, and memorizing many vocabularies.
Students should learn more about reading English texts to improve their
reading skills and practice how to understand English reading.
3. For the future research
The researcher considers that this scientific paper is still not
perfect. There are still many weaknesses related to the theory of the
method, perhaps even the idea is caused by the limitations of the
researcher's abilities. The researcher hopes that further researchers can
apply strategies or methods that can provide solutions to students'
difficulties in understanding reading.
