The Effectiveness of Using Youtube to Improve The Students’ Listening Ability at the Eight Grade of SMPN 6 Watampone

The objective of this research was to find out whether Youtube application as an
effectiveness media to improve the students' listening skill at the eighth grade of
SMPN 6 Watampone.
This research used experimental method as a research design and quantitative
method. There were two variables in this research; they were independent variable
(using Youtube) and dependent variable (Teaching students’ listening skill).
The population of this research was the students of SMPN 6 Watampone at the eighth
grade in academic year 2022/2023. They were selected by using purposive sampling
that consisted of 30 students. This research was conducted with applying the Youtube
application to improve the students’ listening skill. The researcher used pre-test and
post-test as a instrument to know the students improvement in listening skill before
and after applying the implementation. The result of the students mean score before
and after implementation, the mean score obtained by the students in the post-test
(73,02) was greater than the mean score of the students in pre-test (58,86). It assumes
that the effects of Youtube application were very helpful to improve students'
listening skill because there were significant improvement from students after the
implementation is done.
From the result above, it prove that the use of Youtube application was Effective in
improving the students’ listening skill. Therefore, the researcher suggested that
Youtube application should be used in teaching listening skill to make the students
enjoy following the English learning.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded the result of this research show that studying listening
ability through youtube application could improve the students’ listening skill.
1. The use of youtube application improved the students’ listening skill. It can be
seem from the table of both score show that students’ mean score in post test
(73, 20) was higher than the mean score of the students in pre-test (60, 53).
2. The students were interested in using youtube. it coud be understood that the
students’ listening ability after using youtube in listening ability by the result
of interview.
B. Suggestion
In view of the fact that youtube application had been proved to improve the
students’ listening ability, the researcher would like to give suggestions as follows:
1. The teachers could use youtube application as reference in teaching listening
ability. Therefore, the teachers were always stimulating the students‟ interest
and motivate them in learning listening skill also The teacher should be
creative. Moreover, the education system needs them to improve the teaching
skill according to the up to date technology. Nowadays, the internet is widely
used by lots of people. There are many websites that can be accessed to get
new teaching method.
2. The students of SMPN 6 Watampone at the eight grade could improve their
interest in English, especially in listening ability. This method was really
helpful to the students because they can understand well the main story what
listen.
3. For the other researcher, it was suggested that other researcher used the
research results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the
similar topic in the same design to improve the students’ listening ability with
different method.
