A Study Of Secondary Students’ Problems In Daily English Speaking Activity

This thesis discusses the study of the problems of high school students in daily
English speaking activities for the 2021/2022 academic year. There are two
formulations of the problem in this research: first, what are the problems faced by
SMA Negeri 14 Bone students in speaking English activities and secondly, what are
the solutions to the problems faced by students in speaking English activities. This
study aims to determine students' perceptions of the problems faced by students in
speaking activities and to find out the teacher's perceptions of solutions to problems
faced by students in speaking English activities.
This research is included in the type of qualitative research. Subject in this study the
researcher used qualitative methods to get natural data in the form of pure opinions
from students about the challenges of students in speaking English activities. Data
collection techniques used in this study were interviews and observation.. This study
analyzes data by means of reduction, display and conclusion/verification.
Based on the results of the research that many students experience difficulties in
speaking English activities, namely the lack of vocabulary they know so that in
speaking they are very stammered and lack understanding of grammar which makes
students less confident, afraid of making mistakes and embarrassed to be laughed at
by friends class. therefore the teacher provides solutions at every teacher meeting
asking students to memorize some vocabularies, make simple conversations with
students and give assignments about conversations to practice speaking skills.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of research conducted by researchers regarding
students' problems or difficulties in speaking English activities at SMAN 14
Bone. Many students experience obstacles or difficulties in speaking English
activities and this affects the quality of education, the author can draws the
conclusion that:
First, the student's perception of speaking English activities gives the
result that most students find it difficult to carry out speaking English.
Students who find difficulties in speaking English activities occur because of
a lack of vocabulary that they master or limited vocabulary that hinders
students from conveying their ideas, and lack of confidence which makes
them feel afraid of making mistakes, afraid of being criticized by the teacher
and embarrassed. when laughed at by his classmates. and their lack of
understanding of grammar.
Second, the teacher's perception of the problems students face in
speaking English activities made the teacher change strategies in their
learning media, namely at every teacher meeting ask students to memorize
some vocabulary, make simple conversations with students and give
assignments about conversations to practice speaking English.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions described above, there are several things. proposed
by the author include:
A. For English teachers, who want to improve their students' speaking skills,
they can use this strategy well.
B. For students, the results of this study are expected to increase students'
vocabulary mastery by paying attention to everything that is ordered by
the teacher.
C. For other researchers, this research can be a kind of reference and an
interesting way to improve students' skills in speaking English
