The Use Of Round Table Method In Improving Students Learning Motivation

This study aims to determine whether there is an improvement in student
learning motivation after the use of the Round Table learning method. The type of
research used is pre-experiment research, with a one group pre test- post test
research design. The subjects of this study were students of class IX B with a total
of 25 students. The data collection instrument in this study was a motivation
questionnaire using John Keller's ARCS indicators. Data analysis in this study
was to determine the category of student learning motivation level then paired ttest analysis was conducted to see the significant level. The results of pre-test data
analysis using four motivation indicators showed that on average students had low
and very low motivation levels. While the results of post-test data analysis
showed that after the application of the Round Table learning method, the average
student had a very high and high level of motivation. Of the four motivation
indicators used, the indicator that had a drastic improvement was the confidence
indicator. From the results of data analysis using paired t test showed data with a
significant level of 0.001 < 0.005, defined H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted.

A. Conclusion
Students in class IX B generally had low learning motivation seen
from Keller's four indicators of motivation based on the results of the pre
questionnaire of the four indicators used to measure student learning
motivation showed that the average student had learning motivation in the
low and very low categories. So in this research, researcher chose to apply
the round table method in the learning process in the hope of improving
students’ learning motivation. The application of the round table method
with various stages starting from material provision sessions, group
discussion sessions, group assignment sessions, then group assignment
presentation sessions was considered capable of improving students’
learning motivation. And it was true, this was proven to be able to improve
students’ learning motivation. Based on the data obtained from the post
questionnaire instrument given to students using Keller's four motivation
indicators, the four motivation indicators used on average show an
improvement in student learning motivation where the average student
learning motivation was in the very high and high categories. The
improvement in students’ learning motivation in this research was also
significant after hypothesis testing using the paired sample t test table.
B. Suggestions
Based on the results of the research and the implementation of the
learning process with the application of the round table learning method,
the researcher submit suggestions that are hopefully useful for institutions
and researchers. As for the suggestions as follows:
1. To teachers or educators, researcher hope that they can apply the
round table learning method which has been proven to improve
students’ learning motivation so that the learning process can run
optimally and learning outcomes can improve.
2. In this study, it cannot be denied that many things can improve
student’s learning motivation besides the round table method
applied. So for future researchers to focus more on the application of
this round table method by adding variations in the round table
method so that it can strengthen the results of research on the round
table method
