The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Method in Students Reading Comprehension At SMPN 4 Tellu Siattinge
Akila/882032020062 - Personal Name
This research aims to explore the effect of cooperative learning method
on the reading comprehension ability of grade VIII students at SMPN 4 Tellu
Siattinge. Using a quantitative approach and pre-experimental design, this
research involved 44 students. Data were obtained through reading comprehension
tests before and after treatment, and analysed using paired t-test. The results
showed a significant increase in students' reading comprehension ability after the
application of the cooperative learning method. The students' average pretest score
was 40.53, while the average posttest score increased to 81.05. Cooperative
activities such as group discussion, Jigsaw-based learning, and Numbered Heads
Together proved effective in improving students' reading comprehension while
strengthening cooperation and communication skills.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussions presented in the previous
chapters, this research concludes that the implementation of cooperative
learning methods significantly impacts the reading comprehension of Grade
VIII students at SMPN 4 Tellu Siattinge.
This research demonstrates a significant improvement in students'
reading comprehension abilities following the implementation of cooperative
learning methods. The average pretest score was 40.53, while the average
posttest score increased to 81.05, reflecting an improvement of 40.52 points.
This enhancement is attributed to the active participation of students in
cooperative activities, such as group discussions and interactive tasks, which
fostered a deeper understanding of the text.
The results support the research hypothesis (H1): "There is a
significant effect of cooperative learning methods on students' reading
comprehension achievement at SMPN 4 Tellu Siattinge." The null hypothesis
(H0): "There is no significant effect of cooperative learning methods on
students' reading comprehension achievement" is rejected. This indicates that
the cooperative learning approach is an effective strategy for enhancing
reading comprehension skills among junior high school students.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions drawn, the following suggestions are
proposed:
1. For Teachers
Teachers are encouraged to incorporate cooperative learning
methods into their teaching practices to improve students' reading
comprehension and foster a more interactive and engaging classroom
environment.
Adequate preparation and facilitation are necessary to address
potential challenges in group dynamics, ensuring equal participation
among students.
2. For Students
Students should actively participate in cooperative learning
activities to maximize their potential in improving reading comprehension
and develop critical interpersonal skills.
Students are encouraged to embrace collaborative efforts and
utilize feedback from peers to enhance their understanding and
performance.
3. For Schools
Schools should provide training programs and workshops to
equip teachers with the necessary skills and strategies for effectively
implementing cooperative learning methods.
Schools could also consider integrating cooperative learning into
the curriculum to ensure a consistent and structured approach to addressing
reading comprehension challenges.
4. For Future Researcher
Future studies could explore the long-term effects of cooperative
learning on reading comprehension and investigate its applicability across
different subjects and educational levels
