Using The Mnemonic Method To Increase Students’ Achievement And Motivation In Learning English Vocabulary At Junior High School

This research discusses about increase students‘ achievement and
motivation in Learning English Vocabulary by using the mnemonic method. This
research used a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental design with
experimental class and control class with pre-test and post-test. There are two
variables in this research. The dependent variable was students‘ learning English
Vocabulary. The independent variable was the used the Mnemonic method. The
population of this research was class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Watampone
for the 2023/2024 academic year, which consisted of 147 students. The research
sample consisted of 2 class is Class VIIA such as experimental class and VIIE
such as control class. The result of this research indicate that Mnemonic method
can be applied as a learning method to increase students‘ achievement in learning
English vocabulary. It is proven by the mean score of post-tests was significantly
higher than pre-test (89.58 > 46.88). it also can be seen from the result of t-test
showed 0,000 which is less than significant degree (0,05). This shows that H1 is
accepted and H0 is rejected. Therefore, the researcher stated that Mnemonic
method increase students‘ achievement in learning English Vocabulary. And But
for the results of the HI and H0 questionnaires they were neither accepted or
rejected because the result of the questionnaire was neutral 43 or 50,8% .
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the research and discussion that has been
presented in the previous chapter, it can be concluded that there are
significant differences in learning outcomes of the students who learned
learning vocabulary through Mnemonic method with the students who
took the learning without Mnemonic. Learning outcomes of Mnemonic
method are shown by the results of Test Sample Paired test of
experimental class Post-test and control class. Sig value. (2-tailed) is lower
than the significant level (0.000 < 0.05). Then H1 was accepted. It means
―There is has significant difference between students‘ achievement
English Vocabulary taught using Mnemonic method and those taught not
using Mnemonic method‖. This shows that Mnemonic method is effective
to be used in teaching Learning English Vocabulary for VII students‘ of
SMP Negeri 3 Watampone. But for the results of the HI and H0
questionnaires they were neither accepted or rejected because the result of
the questionnaire was neutral 43 or 50,8% .
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions and implications of the research, then
Researchers suggest to the following parties: teachers, students, and others
researcher.
1. English Teacher
According to research findings, the mnemonic method can
increase English vocabulary learning achievement well. However,
English teachers need to be increase motivate them and make them
have new vocabulary.
2. Seventh grade
Students‘ SMP Negeri 3 Watampone still lacks English
vocabulary Student majoring in English Education Students majoring
in English education must further develop their use mnemonic method
as a teaching method in teaching English, especially learning English
vocabulary.
3. Other Researchers
suggests that other researchers need to further develop some
kind of existing mnemonic methods in order to be able to help better to
student vocabulary because in this study the investigator focused only
on the use of acronym
