:Integrating Artificial Intelligence and Self-Regulated Learning in English Vocabulary Learning

This thesis discussed the study of the integrating artificial intelligence and
self-regulated learning in English vocabulary learning for the 2023/2024 academic
year. The formulation of this research is the integration of artificial intelligence
and self-regulated learning more effective in increasing students’ vocabulary
learning than the control class at MAN 2 Bone. This research used a quantitative
method and the research design was a quasi-experimental. To conduct the
research, 50 students of tenth grade student of MAN 2 Bone are chosen as the
sample in this research. They were X.3 class as the experimental class, and X.2
class as the control one. Each class consisted of more than 30 students but the
researcher took 25 students. The instrument the researcher used in this research is
vocabulary test. Artificial intelligence and self-regulated learning was taught in
the experimental class while the control class was taught with conventional
method. The results of this study are intended to describe the integrating artificial
intelligence and self-regulated learning in English vocabulary learning. Based on
the calculation, the post-test mean scores of the experimental class was 67.2 while
that of the control class was 55.6. The result of statistical hypothesis testing by
using independent sample t-test revealed that on degree of significance 5% (ɑ =
0.05), t observe was 2.64 while t table was 1.67 or t observe ˃ t table . Therefore, Ho was
rejected and Ha was accepted. Furthermore, the Cohen’s formulation was used in
order to know the effect size of the integrating artificial intelligence and self-
regulated learning and the result was 0.37. The result indicated that using
artificial intelligence and self-regulated learning is effective through students’
English vocabulary learning and had a modest effect at the tenth grade of students
MAN 2 Bone in the academic year of 2023/2024.
A. Conclusion
The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the
integration of artificial intelligence and self-regulated learning is more
effective in increasing students’ vocabulary learning than the control class at
MAN 2 Bone. In academic year 2023/2024. It is also as an additional proof of
the mentioned theories and the related previous researches.
Based on the result of research conducted by researcher regarding the
integration of artificial intelligence and self-regulated learning in English
vocabulary learning. Many students experience problems in vocabulary
learning and this affects the quality of education, the researcher can draw
conclusion that:
Based on the result that is collected after conducting this research,
since t observe is higher than t table , the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted
and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that there is positive effect of
integrating artificiall intelligence and self-regulated learning in English
vocabulary learning. In addition, the vocabulary learning of the experimental
class could improved after integration of artificiall intelligence and self-
regulated learning in English vocabulary learning compared with the control
class which is not integrating it. Moreover, the calculation of the effect size
reveals that integrating artificiall intelligence and self-regulated learning in
English vocabulary learning give modest effect on students’ vocabulary.
Finally, the researcher summarized that integrating artificiall
intelligence and self-regulated learning in English vocabulary learning is
effective, specifically for the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Bone.
B. Suggestion
After conducting this research, the researcher concluded that teachers
should be more innovative in their teaching in order to boost students’
vocabulary development and reduce boredom in the classroom. Teacher have
a distinct advantage in the digital age because there are numerous acceptable
media and methods for increasing their instruction. Integrating artificial
intelligence and self-regulated learning is advised since it has been shown to
improve students’ English vocabulary learning. The goal is to increase
students’ interest in learning vocabulary.
Students now have a new medium for learning English vocabulary:
artificial intelligence (chatbot), which is a computer program that can interact
with humans via chat, as students frequently do, so making learning more
enjoyable. Furthermore, our chatbot can create daily notes in which we can
write down our vocabulary acquisition goals, and there is a history function
that allows us to check how much vocabulary we have learned. Because
information can be accessible anywhere and at any time, students have an
obligation to learn vocabulary not just from the material offered in the
classroom, but also to practice at home.
This research is wished to give new information for those who read
this and also as a reference for other researchers. As there may be lack
somewhere in this research, the researcher hope that further there will be
another researcher who conduct a research about the same topic or not in
order to enrich the knowledge of teaching and learning.
