The Students’ Achievement in Identifying Narrative Text Elements in Reading Text Using 5W1H Questions

The main objective of this research was to find out the influence of the use of
5W1H Question of student achievement in reading the elements of narrative text.
This research employed quantitative method with pre-experimental design. The
sample of this research was 29 students of vocational high school that chosen with
cluster sampling technique. All the data of this research were analyzed using
SPPS application. The findings of this research showed there was not significant
difference between the results of students’ pre-test and post-test. It can be seen
that the sig (2- tailed) was 0,387 > 0,05 it means that H 0 was accepted and H 1 was
rejected. It caused by the difficulties in comprehending elements of the narrative
text.
A. Conclusion
5W1H does not influence of students’ achievement in identifying narrative
text elements. This research found that students had some difficulties in
identifying narrative text elements using 5W1H. This commonly caused by the
difficulties in comprehending the narrative text. Hence, this research can conclude
that using 5W1H does not influence students; progress in identifying narrative
text elements which means the H 0 is accepted and H 1 is rejected. Additionally.
The use of 5W1H is not suitable to be used in identifying narrative text elements.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion presented above, the researcher tries to give some
suggestions for some parties as follows;
1. For English teacher, it is suggested to make sure that all the students
understand the narrative text before implementing 5W1H.
2. For students, it is suggested to read the text carefully before looking for
specific information about 5W1HFor the next researcher:
a) It is highly suggested to investigate deeper about the students’
difficulties in comprehending 5W1H in reading narrative text.
b) Using another method for the same research or increase the intensity
of treatment in the research’s sample.
3. For the next research, it is highlty suggested to investigate deeper about
the students’ difficulties in comprehending 5W1H question in reading
narrative text.
4. For the next researcher, use other method or increase research credentials.
