Restiana/882032020048 - Personal Name
The objectives of this research is to overcome students' English text reading
anxiety in English Education subject at SMK Negeri 1 Bone. The participants of
this research were students of class X.PN_3 (Marketing) SMK Negeri 1 Bone in
the academic year 2023/2024. The sample was 23 students or one class.
Quantitative method was used in this research and the research design used was
Pre-Experimental Design. In addition, the instruments used were a test to assess
students' reading knowledge, and a questionnaire to assess students' reading
anxiety. Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient was used in this
research by using the SPSS 23 program in processing the data to determine the
correlation. The results were analyzed descriptively and inferentially with t-test.
The results of this research show that the t-test value is 18.062 and the t-table is
2.074. So it can be seen that the t-test value is greater than the t-table value, which
means there is a significant difference. The accepted hypothesis in this research
was the alternative hypothesis (H a ), while the null hypothesis (H o ) was rejected.It
can be concluded that, cross-cultural understanding can overcome students'
reading anxiety.
A. Conclusion
This research shows that the application of cross-cultural
understanding in classroom reading learning has a significant positive
impact in overcoming students' reading anxiety and improve students’
reading skills. Through this approach, teachers can build closer
relationships with students, understand their cultural backgrounds and
create learning content that is relevant to students' life experiences. Thus,
students feel more connected to the material taught and are more
motivated to read. It was found that exposure to texts that reflect diverse
cultures helped students feel more represented and recognized in the
learning environment. This contributed to their increased confidence in
reading, as they felt more able to understand and identify with the texts. In
addition, cross-cultural learning also enhances students' understanding of
different perspectives, opening their minds to the wider world and
deepening empathy for others. Besides providing direct benefits in
reducing reading anxiety, the cross-cultural approach also has the potential
to shape positive attitudes towards diversity and strengthen tolerance
among students. By building a deeper understanding of different cultures,
students become more open to differences and better able to interact with
people from different backgrounds. From the results of the pre-test, post-
test, and questionnaire, it can be concluded that students need a deeper
cross-cultural understanding, especially the marketing class.
In conclusion, the accepted hypothesis in this study is the
alternative hypothesis (Ha), while the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.
which means that cross-cultural understanding has an effect in overcoming
students' reading anxiety.

1. English Teacher
Based on the results of the research, English teachers are
advised to pay more attention to their students, you have a crucial role
in helping students overcome their reading anxiety. This research
highlights the importance of cross-cultural understanding in
approaches to learning, and as a teacher, you have a great opportunity
to apply this concept in your daily practice. By understanding your
students' cultural backgrounds, you can create an inclusive and
supportive learning environment, where every student feels valued and
supported in their learning process. Be an agent of change who
promotes cross-cultural understanding in your English classroom, and
watch how it affects not only students' reading skills, but also their
overall personal development.
2. Students
For the students, I would like to convey the message that
reading anxiety is common, but it does not have to be an obstacle to
your English language development. By developing cross-cultural
understanding, you can find an affinity with your reading material,
open yourself up to diverse perspectives, and hone your reading skills
with more confidence. Be an agent of change in your own education,
and make reading anxiety a challenge you can overcome.

your exploration of the use of cross-cultural understanding in the
context of English language education. The findings from this study
show that it has a significant impact in addressing students' reading
anxiety. The next step is to dig deeper into more specific teaching
strategies and analyze their impact on the reading skills of students
from diverse cultural backgrounds. In doing so, you can make a
meaningful contribution to expanding our understanding of how
English education can become more inclusive and effective.
