Promoting Students' Achievement And Motivation in English Reading Through A Confidence-Building Diary

This thesis presents research on promoting students' achievement and motivation in
reading English through a Confidence-Building Diary (CBD). This research aims to
determine the effectiveness of the Confidence-Building Diary (CBD) in promoting
students’ achievement and motivation in reading English at SMA 9 Bone. There are
two variables in this research. The dependent variables are learning achievement and
learning motivation. The independent variable is the Confidence-Building Diary. This
research uses a quantitative method that uses a pre-experimental research design with
one group pre-test and post-test. The sample for this research consisted of 35 students
from class XI 4 at SMAN 9 Bone who were selected using cluster random sampling
techniques. The researcher gave pre-test, treatment, post-test, and reading motivation
questionnaires. The results show that the average post-test score was higher than the
average pre-test score (82.29>62.14) and the average MRQ score (74.44). This can
also be seen from the results of the paired sample T-test which shows 0.00 which is <
significant degree (0.05) and the results of the one-sample t-test shows < 0.00 which
is
