Exploring Teacher’s Strategies to Motivate the Students’ for Learning English at Senior High School in Bone

This research aims to determine teacher strategies to motivate the student
for learning English. The research design used is a case study with a qualitative
descriptive approach. Furthermore, research instruments in the form of
observation checklists and structured interviews were used to collect data in this
research. This research was carried out at one of the senior high schools in Bone
with the implementation carried out in the classroom. The participants in this
research were 1 class XI English teacher. Based on the research results, it was
found that the strategies used by teacher in increasing students' learning
motivation used two strategies, namely direct learning strategies which are the
most teacher-centered strategies and interactive learning strategies which refer to
forms of discussion and variety between students, by providing opportunities for
students to react to ideas and views and looking for alternatives in thinking. By
increasing expectations of success, it provides an understanding of the many
benefits of learning English, creating fun learning motivation, teachers foster good
relationships and communication with students, and provide icebreakers when
they start to feel lethargic.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussion described in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that:
Based on interviews and checklist observations conducted to obtain data
related to teacher strategies in increasing student learning motivation at SMA
Negeri 1 Bone, providing positive motivation strategies. Motivational strategies
are analyzed based on Dornyei's theory, in which there are four aspects in
motivating students. These aspects create basic motivational conditions, generate
initial conditions, maintain and protect motivation and encourage positive self-
evaluation.
The strategies used by the English teacher to motivate the students' learning
English are use two strategies, namely direct learning which is the most teacher-
centered strategy and interactive learning strategies which refer to forms of
discussion and variety between students, by providing opportunities for students to
react to ideas and views and look for alternatives in thinking. By increasing
expectations of success, it provides an understanding of the many benefits of
learning English. Creating fun learning motivation, teacher build good
relationships and communication with students, and provide icebreakers when they
start to feel sluggish. Apart from that, motivate by making material that is easy for
students to understand.

B. Suggestion
After completing this research, some suggestions that may be useful are as
follows:
1. Teachers are expected to always try to maximize the strategies used.
2. Teachers must always have strategies to increase student learning
motivation, innovations that can make students enthusiastic and happy to
participate in learning.
3. This research is an input or consideration for many parties, especially those
engaged in English language education and other educational institutions.
4. It is hoped that future researchers will be able to maximize their research in
order to obtain more results and complete data. Researchers also hope that
this research can become a reference for researchers conducting research
on the same topic as well as useful information for further research.
