This thesis presented research on the comparison between outdoor and
indoor learning methods in increasing students' vocabulary in high schools in
Bone. This research aimed to find out the comparison between outdoor and indoor
learning methods in increasing vocabulary in senior high schools in Bone. There
were two variables in this research. The dependent variable was students'
vocabulary improvement, and the independent variables were outdoor and indoor
learning methods. This research used a quantitative method, which utilized quasiexperimental research with two-group pre-test and post-test. The researcher used
cluster random sampling. The sample consisted of 32 students from class X 1 of
SMAN 12 Bone. The researcher gave a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The
instrument of this research was a vocabulary test in the form of multiple choice,
comparing indoor and outdoor learning methods. The data on the comparison of
indoor and outdoor learning methods were analysed using SPSS 22. The results of
this research showed that after comparing the multiple-choice test results between
the indoor and outdoor methods, students experienced a significant increase in
vocabulary, but the comparison of the results of the two methods was almost the
same, or there was no significant difference. This could also be seen from the
results of the t-test, which showed the value of sig. 0.184 and sig. (2-tailed) 0.684
with a standard error of 1.670. So, from this research, it could be concluded that
there was no significant difference in value, or the value was smaller than or equal
to 0.05. This meant that H1 (alternative hypothesis) was rejected, and H0 (null
hypothesis) was automatically accepted. Therefore, it was concluded that the use
of outdoor learning methods in this research was no more effective than indoor
learning methods.
A. Conclusion
In conclusion, the outdoor learning method was more effective than the
indoor learning method. This was proven by looking at the comparison of the
average scores from the tests given indoors and outdoors. The average score
of students in the experimental class was better compared to the average score
of students in the control class. This indicated that H0 was accepted and H1
was rejected. This meant that there was no significant difference in value from
the application of the two methods, so it could be concluded that the outdoor
learning method was no more effective in improving students' vocabulary
compared to the use of the indoor learning method after the research was
conducted using multiple-choice questions in the pre-test and post-test.
B. Suggestion
Based on the research results and conclusions, the researcher would like
to make the following suggestions:
1. For teachers
English teachers should be able to provide a different atmosphere in
presenting subject matter with comfortable and fun methods.
2. For students
Learning English is very important for today's life. Students must be
able to adapt to new learning methods, especially in relation to increasing
vocabulary because vocabulary is the most important basis in English.
3. For the next researcher
Because this research gives quite good results, it is hoped that further
research will be carried out researchers can do this research better and give
better results.
