Examining Student’s Reading Skill By Using Higher Order Thinking Skills To The Student’s Of Senior High School

This research discusses the use of the Higher Order Thinking Skills
(HOTS) method on students' English reading abilities. This research was under
the guidance of Dr. Mujahidin, M.Pd.I and Musfirah, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. This research
uses a pre-experimental design method. There are two variables in this research,
namely the independent variable and the dependent variable. The population of
this study were students of SMKN 2 BONE. The sample selected using the cluster
random sampling technique was class XI TKR, totaling 25 male and no female. In
this research, the instrument used was 10 multiple choice questions, the results of
which were then analyzed using the SPSS application. The research results
showed that there were significant differences in the students' pre-test and post-
test results. The average student pre-test score was 50.40 and the average student
post-test score was 74.00. the t-test value is higher than t-table value (13.717 >
1.711). So the use of the Higher Order Thinking Skills (H0TS) method is an
effective method and there is a significant difference in improving the reading
skills of senior high school students.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that there was a good influence and significant changes from
the use of the HOTS method, seen from the results of the students' pre-test and
post-test. For the average value of the students' pre-test is 50.40 and the students'
post-test is 74.00. Furthermore, it can be seen from the value of the student's t-test
which is greater than the value of the t-table. The student's t-test score is 13.717
and the student's t-table value is 1.711. And it can be said that the HOTS method
used by researcher in this research had a good effect on increasing students'
reading skill.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions stated above, the researcher provides several suggestion,
for teacher, for students, for other researcher and who read this as follows,
For Teacher:
 The teacher can use and apply the HOTS method in teachng and
learning process, especially to improve students reading skills in this
method.
 Implementing the HOTS method is an alternative teaching method and
varies the teaching and learning process so that students are interested.
For Students:
 The students can focus, participate and more active in the learning
process. So that it is easy to understand the explanations and directions
from the teacher and later what is obtained can be beneficial for
themselves, the nation and the country.
 Students can learn to use a newly discovered method and it could
become a method that can be used more often in the future.
For other Reseachers:
 Hopefully they can use this thesis as a guide and reference in the
future, and it can be a fun method in the learning process
