Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery through Sulawesi Folktales for the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1 Ajangale

The researcher conducts research about “Improving Students‟ Vocabulary
Mastery through Sulawesi Folktales for the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1
Ajangale”. There are two variables in this study. The dependent variable is the
vocabulary of the students of this study and the independent variable is using
Sulawesi Folktales. This study use quantitative methods that use pre-test and post-test
design. The pre-test was given before treatment and post-test was given after
treatment to find out the improvement students' vocabulary. The researcher used
cluster sampling. Researcher chose a sample of 1 class consisting of 10 students of
class VIII A SMPN 1 Ajangale. Vocabulary improvement data of students were
analyzed using SPSS 21. The results of this study showed an increase in students‟
vocabulary after being given treatment. This can be seen from the comparison data
between the average post-test score significantly higher than the pre-test (77,00 >
55,50). The result of this study indicate that there is a significant increase in students‟
vocabulary after giving treatment using Sulawesi Folktales. This can be proven by
(Sig.) is 0,001 < 0,05. Thus it can be concluded that by using Sulawesi Folktale to
improve vocabulary students‟ are known to be better.
A. Conclusions
Based on the results of the findings in the previous chapter, the researcher
wants to make a conclusion. The students' vocabulary was improved by using
Sulawesi Folklore for the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Ajangale. This can be seen from
the average value of the mean score of pre-test (55.50) and post-test (77.00), with a
significance value (sig 2-tailed) 0.001 which is smaller than 0.05 (0.001
