This thesis presents research about the use of PLEASE (Pick, List,
Evaluate, Activate, Supply and End) strategy in improving students’ achievement
in writing descriptive text. This research aims to find out whether the use of
PLEASE strategy significantly improves the students’ achievement in writing
descriptive text. There are two variables in this research. The dependent variable
is the strategy PLEASE to write descriptive text. The independent variable is the
student achievement in writing descriptive text. This research applied quantitative
method which used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-
test. The researcher used cluster random sampling. The sample consists of 27
students from the XI MIPA 3 of MAN 2 Bone. The researcher gave pre-test,
treatment, and post-test. The instrument of this research was writing test. The
students’ scores in writing test from pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using
SPSS 23. The results show that the mean score of post-test were significantly
higher than pre-test (78.25>53.74). It also could be seen from the result of t-test
showed 0.00 which was less than significant degree (0.05). Therefore, a promising
connection exists between the use of PLEASE strategy and the improvement of
students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. The findings of this pre-
experimental research suggest a positive association between the use of PLEASE
strategy and the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text
A. Conclusion
In this section the researcher present an explanation of the research results
that have been obtained (pre-test, treatment and post-test) at MAN 2 Bone,
especially class X1 MIPA 3 with a population of 27 people. Researchers
provide descriptive text material using the PLEASE strategy.
Based on the results and discussion of this research, it can be concluded
there is an improvement that the use of PLEASE (Pick, List, Evaluate,
Activate, Supply, and End) strategy. The pretest average value is 40.5 and the
pretest standard deviation was 10.2. While the average value of the post test is
70.3 and the standard deviation of the post test is 9.1. Furthermore, the results
of the t test indicates 0.00 which is lees then degree of significance (0.05). This
shows that H 1 is accepted and that the H 0 rejected.
Based on the conclusions above. This means that this research has answered
the formulation of the research, namely that there is a significant improvement
in the use of the PLEASE (Pick, List, Evaluate, Activate, Supply, End) strategy
in improving students’ achievement in writing descriptive text in the eleventh
grade of MAN 2 Bone. Therefore a promising connection exists between the
use of PLEASE strategy and the improvement of students’ achievement in
writing descriptive text. The findings of this pre-experimental research suggest
a positive association between the use of PLEASE strategy and the students’
achievement in writing descriptive text.
B. Suggestion
The study shows that writing with the PLEASE (Pick, List, Evaluate,
Activate, Supply, End) strategy can improve student achievement in writing
descriptive texts. From the results of this study it is suggested that:
1. For teachers
English teachers are advised to the use PLEASE strategy, because this
strategy is a creative strategy that can be used in the teaching and learning
process to improve student’s writing skills.
2. For students
Based on the results of this research, researchers suggest students use
the PLEASE strategy. Because this strategy works well in making it easier for
students to arrange descriptive text sequentially, it seems that this strategy
really helps improve their achievement in learning English, especially writing.
3. For next researchers
Further researchers who are interested in conducting research related to
the research should try to apply the PLEASE strategy to students from
different levels through different gendress to prove the effectiveness of the
PLEASE strategy on students’ writing skills.
