his research aimed to analyse the influence of personality in speaking
performance. The focus was analysis the influence of extrovert and introvert
personality of the student toward speaking performance.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative research method with a
case study approach. The data was collected through questionnaire, interview and
speaking test. The subject of this research was students at the second grade of MA
Baytul Mukarromah Welalange. There were 10 consisted 5 extrovert and 5
introvert student that had been divided by using Eysenck Personality
Questionnaire to acquire data needed. The data analysis was employed based on
procedure of data analysis suggested by Miles and Huberman that consisted of
step reduction, display and verification data.
The result of this data described that there was no influence between
extrovert and introvert personality toward speaking performance, but it is
influenced by difference level of knowledge and frequently participation or well
preparation. It showed that personality types is not a determiner factor for the
success of Speaking Performance, it can be suggested that students with different
personality types may employ different kinds of strategies for learning.
Consequently, whether extrovert or introvert as long as the student had enough
knowledge about the topic and also was supported by frequently participation or
preparation well, the speaking performance would be better.
A. Conclusion
Personality is the combination of characteristics that form an individual’s
character. In this research, there are two types which is discussed, there are
extrovert and introvert. Both of them especially in speaking performance. Based
on the data analyses, the researcher concludes that there is no influence between
extrovert and introvert personality toward the speaking performance. If it is
viewed as a whole, it is caused by the difference level of knowledge and
participation student in English learning.
As is known in speaking, extrovert learners are more likely to engage in
oral participation than the introverts as students with quiet and passive that make
extrovert tents have a good performance but the fact is introvert is type of person
who is thoughtful or person who think before deciding something to say orally
who is supported the introvert will have a good performance too.
Based on the result of speaking test, successfully of speaking performance
was not influenced by extrovert and introvert because two of them have their own
way in learning.
Therefore, a good speaking is caused by different level of knowledge also
frequently participation or preparation well. The more knowledge and preparation
you have, the better it will be.
Consequently, whether extrovert or introvert as long as the student had
enough knowledge about the topic and also was supported by frequently
participation or preparation well, the speaking performance would be better. As
the result of the study shows that personality types is not a decisive factor for the
success of oral English learning, it can be suggested that students with different
personality types may employ different kinds of strategies for learning.
B. Suggestion
a. To students
Students as the subject of the research should be able to analyze their own
difficulties in based on their own personality especially about paying attention to
take a part in speaking or learning English to get more input.
b. To teachers
Teachers should be able to understand students personality that has
differences each other, especially in speaking. The types of personality have their
own difficulties and way to learn. Therefore, it cannot be denied that extrovert
student always be better in speaking rather than introvert. Different characteristic
of students needs different treatment to deal with.
