Using Naruto Comic As A Learning Material In Improving Students Speaking Skill

This research aims to determine the improvement of students' speaking skills
by using Naruto comics as a learning material in class IX-E of SMP Negeri 3
Watampone. The result of this research is expected to be useful for students in
improving their speaking skills and can help the teachers to be more creative. This
research used Class Action Research (CAR). The population of the research
focused on the students of SMP Negeri 3 Watampone in academic years
2023/2024. The subjects of the research all the students at IX-E class that consist
of 29 students in academic years 2023/2024. The data were taken from students‟
speaking test. Whole the data was analyzed and the result compared with standard
criteria to control the achievement.
The result of this research shows that the using of Naruto Comic as a learning
to students at IX-E class of SMP Negeri 3 Watampone got the target in the third
cycle. In the first cycle, students got the standard score only 44.5%. In the second
cycle, students got 63.9%. The researcher continued the research to the third cycle
and the result was 77.9%. In the Pre-Test, the students got a score of 31.1% which
indicated poor classification. This result indicates that using Naruto comics as a
teaching material improved the speaking abilities of class IX-E students at SMP
Negeri 3 Watampone. The data shows a 43.8% improvement from Cycle 1 to
Cycle 2, followed by a further 21.9% improvement from Cycle 2 to Cycle 3 in
pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.
A. Conclusion
Based on discussion proposed in previous chapter, using Naruto comic as a
material in teaching-learning process is able to improve the students‟ speaking
accuracy in terms pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary at the ninth grades
students in IX-E class of SMP Negeri 3 Watampone. Students‟ speaking
accuracy improved based on the findings of Pre-Test was 31.1, in Cycle 1 was
44.5, Cycle 2 was 63.9 and in Cycle 3 was 77.9. The percentage of students‟
improvement from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2 was 43.8% and Cycle 2 to Cycle 3 was
21.9%.
Therefore, using Naruto comic as a material is able to improve students‟
speaking skill in terms accuracy that dealing in pronunciation, vocabulary and
grammar.
B. Suggestion
In line with the above conclusion of this classroom action research, some
suggestions could be made as follows:
1. The English teachers were advised to incorporate engaging media into their
teaching methods to enhance student learning. The teachers should be creative
in teaching English, especially vocabulary, because to master English it needs
more technique or method in increase it.
2. Comics are a powerful material that can effectively motivate students to
engage with and learn classroom content, providing teachers with an valuable
alternative teaching tool. The students should be highly motivated to know a
lot of vocabulary and use them in oral and written communication.
3. The findings of this research can serve as an additional point of reference or as
a foundation for further research with distinct areas of exploration for future
researcher
